I am planning a build and my gunsmith can do custom rifles but is not up to speed on what is good for my intensions. I am building a 243 on a long action. He advised me he could cut the throat on my rifle however i liked it. I hope to run retumbo powder or something similarly slow. I plan to try the 105's in different brands, and possibly sierras new 110. My question is what should i have him cut the throat/free bore at since i wont have any mag length restriction issues? or how deep should I seat my bullet and make a dummy round to measure off of?

The .243 has a short neck so you dont have a ton of room to work with. If he can throat it to anything, just provide him with dummy rounds, and tell him how much jump, if any, you want beyond the longest dummy. The 110 is like a long nosed berger 105. Nearly identical bearing surface lengths, at least on my samples. If it were me, i'd seat the bearing surface about .030-.050 above the neck shoulder junction.
