Unless you’re talking .22LR, it’s generally a bad idea to use a PVS-14 on a rifle. You can make it work, but it’s just sucky. In that particular case, better to use an IR LAM and/or NV compatible RDS on a highrise mount with helmet-mounted NOD(s) if you want passive aiming. A PVS-27 is fantastic, but beefy as hell and not light. They suck on a gas gun for that reason. Much better on an LR rig with a ZCO 420 or Leup 3-18.
I’d run a PVS on your melon with a 25-50mm LWIR on the gun — like the RH-25 — either dedicated or in front of a 1-8 LPVO.
Lastly, do NOT get paralysis by analysis over tube handwringing. A decent GP or any WP from L3 or Elbit will be just fine. You won’t gain anything in practical use terms buying a $5000 L3 2376 PVS-14 over a $1500 Milsurp Omni VII that’s still in good shape.
If you’re swimming in cash, by all mean get the Gucci schwag. Otherwise, zero meaningful reason to break the bank.
