What may have caused this?

Pistol is a CZ shadow 2. I''ve had it for maybe a year. I doubt it has more than 500 rounds through it. I decided to clean it today and I noticed this chip inside the slide. It functions fine, I shot it yesterday. I'm just trying to figure out what the chip is from.

I would contact CZ. Send it to them to look at. Replace and maybe tell you what caused it.

Looks like it is directly below the extractor tunnel. Is that right? Not in a critical place.

I don’t have a Shadow but I have had a pile of CZ75s over the years. I wouldn’t worry about that ding at all unless there is evidence of damage to the lower or the barrel lockup. I’ve seen much worse tool marks inside a slide.

The "4" directional points of that mark are interesting to me in that it suggests it's not caused by wear or machining (if so I'd have to believe it'd only go one way and not have seemingly perfect perpendicular intersects in what seems to be the center). I agree with @John? that it seems to line up with the extractor- any chance that was there by design and not a result of wear caused by rubbing against other parts?

It will be part of the machining process.

All of my CZs have the same thing, in the same spot. Look at the top of the slide… the hole goes clear through.

From where it’s located, is it possible you got a little crazy practicing reloads and over inserted one? Do you have any mags that now have a matching dent at the top?

Or CZ peened that pin to not come out the bottom of the slide.

IDK I’ve chipped steel with less when hit in the wrong spot… and I‘ve seen more than a couple 1911 slides that have taken divots from mags.

I'd believe they made a mark. I'd not believe they looked like someone took a chisel and staked a pin...

That's because 1911 slides are made from old beer cans and failure.
