Rifle Scopes What now

I thought i had a scope, rings, and base decided on but the plans fell apart when i lost all hope in the supplier. i planned on getting Seekins rings and base from SWFA aswell as a falcon menace 5-25x50. but i ordered the rings and base and waited a couple weeks and they never showed up so i called them and they are on backorder...

so i cancelled my order because they couldnt even give me a ballpark on when id get them.

so i either need to change my components decisions or find another site that has them in stock.

does some one know of a site that carries one or both?

or if i cant fid them anywhere else are there any other setups of equal quality that some one reccomends with the site i can purchase them?

I would watch the for sale section here for a Bushnell or something similar. You can pick up a used 6-24x50 Bushy Tactical for around $500. It's only $50 or so more than the falcon and it's a lot more scope. It doesn't have matching reticle and knobs or ffp but as far as warranty and dependability go, the Falcon doesn't have it. Not trying to knock on anybody, just trying to help you out a little

i see... well i need a scope thats either FFP or fixed power and has matching turrets and retacle mil/mil. i just cant see spending that much money on a scope thats not even compatable with itself.

any other scopes that fit the description of the falcon that you recommend?

We have MSRP (manufacture suggested retail price) and MAP (minimum advertise price). If you order from us you will most likely wait a bit longer and we only sell for MSRP. This gives our customers some incentive to buy from our dealer network. We cant hardly handle the phone calls we get now and are more set up for manufacturing than we are direct sales. We do sell allot of product from here and you will always be able to order from us and talk directly to me or Al for any reason. We tripled our sales this year and couldn't have done it without our dealers.

Not really with matching turrets and reticles, because "that much money" is really not, and matching mil/mil is still fairly new to the scope industry amongst lower priced scopes (<$500 is "budget" scopes). People have been getting shit done with mildots and moa adjustments for a long time now, and are still getting it done. If you were spending real money ($1500+) then your options wouldn't be a compromise.

You would be better served getting a scope that has a reputation for repeatability and tracking in that price range than having to have the cool guy features. For $500 I would suggest you call SWFA back and see if they have any 10X or 16X fixed SS scopes on hand, and spend the rest on rings and a base. Once you have outgrown the SS you will have a full understanding of what you want/need in your next scope and still have a reliable scope for a backup, or one that will sell for 85% of its purchase price. If you spend $400 to get what the cool kids run you are buying a crapshoot on whether or not your scope will even work. If you have to have a Falcon, get it from Robert (RWS) as he stands behind what he sells.

im not sure what cool kids want but through my research from people who know what they want theyve recommended i get a mill/mill scope. theyve recommended this even in my price range. from my research both the falcon menace and the SS do infact have repeatability.

i realize 500 bucks is a low end scope. but a 350Z is a low end car when compared to a ferrari but id be happy with one of those too. people have been "getting it done" for years back when they didnt have the quality of high end scope we have today. so while it would be nice to drop thousands on a scope and have a rifle worth putting it on im not made of money and i theory being also human i can "get it done" with MY low quality scope.

im also new to long range shooting though not new to firearms. so all i can do is take a general opinion of people who know what they are talking about and purchase based on my and there gathered ideas.

i appreciate your opinion aswell and will take it into consideration. as ive stated above i already purchased seekins rings and base. that was $230... i figure its not too expensive to have great rings and bas so i decided id do that in order to get rid of one weak link all together. now perhaps i could have purchased junk rings and got another 130 bucks into a scope but that would be like putting your ferrari on spare tires...makes it useless for its design.

Fast followups are not dialed, they're held.

I only offer my advice as a guy that has spent more money on crap than good kit would have cost in the first place, and my unabridged opinion is that Falcons are crap and you money is better spent elsewhere. I also shoot precision comps and help run one of the best in the country, so I've seen a few scopes in use.
I don't think there is a good varialble mil/mil scope in your price rnge and was recommending what I have experienced to be a reliable repeatable scope with more elevation than anything else in the category.

Go ahead and spend your money how you want. If you go Falcon, RWS is the way to go. I've owned the 4-14 and got rid of it after shootin it once, jsut didn't have confidence in it. I also researched Falcons for a while and they run a pretty high failure rate.

Just because he watches dogs hump stuffed animals doesn't mean he doesn't know a thing or two about optics. I believe you were offered some good advice about placing less emphasis on matching turrets and FFP in favor of tracking and repeatability at the $500 price range. You admitted you were new to long range shooting, and IMHO I think you would be better off with a fixed 10x like the SS. I guarantee you the guys you talked to about the Mil/Mil turrets also know how to range and convert Mil to MOA.

like i said im taking all opinions into consideration. converting from moa to mill isnt rocket science but that dosent mean i want to do it all the time if i dont have to. ive made peace with perhaps losing the FFP in my price range to open up other options but im still not ready to give up matching turrets and reticle.

im willing to pay up to 700 bucks total for the right scope but im not willing to give up bells or whistles and pay more for a minor gain in glass quality. im not big on hunting so low light conditions will be minimal.

im still looking around and looking into scopes people recommend but if i end up getting the falcon menace and its a pile of crap ill throw it in the trash can and buy a different scope. since im new to shooting the best thing for me to do is get ANY decent setup and then shoot and see what i want. i dont see the point in buying a 2k scope based on others recommendations just to go out and shoot for the first time and wish i bought something else.

You would be much better off with a quality $500 scope that tracks well and always works than a $500 Chinese with known reliability issues. In a perfect world you do want matching turrets and FFP but when your spending $500 your options are a bit limited. You can't have all the features and quality for a cheap price, in that cheap price they're obviously cutting something out and that's the overall quality.

You don't have to spend $1000-4000 to get a quality mil/mil scope that will last most people a life time, but you aren't going to get it for under $500 either. My suggestion would be to save a little more and pick up a Bushnell 4200 3-12x44 for under $700 or a SS HD for $800, or you can save some by looking for a used one. The Bushnell is FFP, mil/mil, and illuminated, and the SS is fixed power and mil/mil. Both of them will absolutely blow the falcon out of the water.

Being nicer to people will get you a lot further too, some may come across as harsh at times browse they're only trying to help you out. Being stubborn and not taking the good advice from others will end up costing you a lot of money with this sport. Also if you pulled your head from your butt and fill out your profile there's a good chance you might get a PM from a local member that would be willing to help you out, sell you a scope for a deal, or maybe lend you one until you can afford something better than a falcon.

like i said im willing to pay 700... but im on call for work right now and im doing the math and with tonight being new years im probably going to get alot of calls tonight so i think i can swing $900 on my next check so that SS 10X42 is in my price range. but im going to make damn certain they have that sucker in stock before i place my order.
