What Pelican Case do you recommend?

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

It just depends on the overall length and height of your rifle/scope combo as to which case will work best...length being the BIG factor in the equation. Here are links to the various options (skipping the 36" model which will not work on full-size bolt action rifles unless you have a folding stock):

Depending on where you are looking to buy...the corresponding "older" Pelican case models are the 1720 and 1750 cases.

Other thing to ask yourself is "Do I really want/need a hard case?"

If you aren't doing airline travel regularly or you aren't traveling in an area where you need the heavy-duty protection/addt'l security of a hard case...skip it and get a drag bag or other quality soft case. Just no need for the extra weight/size of a 26lb hard case for house to truck...truck to range...range to shooting position and back again transport/shooting.

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

Also to add on to ORD's post, if you decided you actually need a hard case I would recommend the Pelican over the Pelican Storm. Not anything bad against Storm, seems how I have an iM3300 but don't actually need one. I just got a really good deal and couldn't pass it up.

The Pelican's say "Watertight, crushproof, and dust proof," where as the Storm's are only "watertight." The exterior material is much softer on the Storm cases than the Pelican cases. Either way they are both very close in price.

Hope that helps.

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

I went with the 1750 for greater versatility and room for accessories. While I may not have a rifle that requires it right now, it will be nice to have the room available if I ever do.

Once you make the decision to lug a hard case around the extra length isn't that big a deal. At least that is how it seems to me.

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

A recommendation since I am assuming you are deployed is to snatch up one of the Hardigg cases which the base-x light bars come in. Its an IM330 just with different foam. I picked up 3 and spent 160 to order new foam from the distributor and poof. 3 brand new Pelican cases for a buck 60.

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

Regardless of which Pelican you pick, the lifetime company guarantee is awesome. I had a 1750 which I used for years. Long story short, it developed a crack on one corner. I called Pelican and told them what happened, and they replaced it free of charge. All I was out was the cost of shipping it back to the company.

Re: What Pelican Case do you recommend?

When I get my new 338 rifle I am ordering a 1770 pelican case. I probably will get charged by a few airlines when I check it (Some are nice and let me slide with my top tier status). The 1750 is nice but I like the 1770 because I can have rifles and plenty of space for my sidearms, cans and anything else with out having multiple hard cases to check.
