Not my first or ninth Rodeo here, and I'm a rider, not a clown.

This last bedding job I did seemed normal enough.... packed the action and trigger assembly cuts with clay & otherwise prepped the stock and barreled action for bedding.

Applied plenty of mixed Acraglass Gel into the stock, guided the action into the stock blah blah blah. Seemed everyday ordinary.

Except this is the first time in my experience that the curing of the Acraglass created so much heat it was painful to touch the metal of the action with bare fingers. Hmmmm?

I normally let the gel that splooges out between the stock and action get rubbery and then (dull)knife it off.

Long story short, I ended up with CURED Acraglass Gel in the locking recesses of my action as well as in my CHAMBER! And of course I did not put any release agent in the chamber! duh.

Upon further inspection the clay seriously softened from the heat and settled making a void at the top allowing some of gel splooge to flow into the front of the action and chamber where it happily set up overnight.

So how does a sapien remove cured gel from his lug recesses & chamber short of a reamer?

I get the best luck I tell ya. I'm really not wanting to pull the barrel back out of the action.

Any advice?

Okay,

It's "looking" like nothing more than a pain in the arse cleaning job.
According to Brownell's cured A-glass begins to soften at 300*. So I ripped the Harbor Freight Coupon page out of this month's NRA "Freedom First" magazine and went and bought a $8 heat gun/ hair torcher.

I started heating it and poking and prodding around with a .1875" brass rod. FORTUNATLY the cured section in the chamber came out like a small terd. I'm thanking God that Kroil Kreeps on that one. The A-Glass did not adhear like it normally does on that one. I'm guessing it was Kroil in the pores/metal of the chamber.

The splooge that had cured in the lug recesses was a whole 'nother story. It was really tough to deal with, but I guess it gave up the ghost to the heat finally. It got only a little bit of surface softness but finally came out in three chunks. I had to hit the brass rod with a hammer to "chisel" it out and then mallet the bolt open/closed a few cycles to clear the rest in the corners, nook & crannies.

I'm amazed this was not a nightmare. I hope that anyone else that finds themselves in the same situation comes across this and finds this solution. The heat gun did the trick, and Thank You God the chamber had an oil film in it.

In the future I will MAKE SURE sure the internals of the action/chamber GET AN OIL FILM before their packed with clay.

RELIEVED! Thanks.

It's experiences like that which taught me to apply release agent everywhere the glass CAN get to, not just where I THINK it will go! I normally apply release agent to the locking lug recesses and chamber now, as well as inside the receiver. It saves me from problems like what you experienced!

I'm not sure you're using enough glass if the excess didn't completly fill the chamber.

Glad you got it cleaned up.

Yeah thats it! need MORE glass. A chamber filled totally with A-glass increases barrel life exponentially!

Thanks fellas.

Had my own bad experience with AG. Went with Devcon and Synlube release agent. So much nicer than AG. Gotta love the Synlube spray on.

Re: What removes cured AcraGlass Gel? DAMN IT!!!

I had the same thing happen to me with devcon, as I was setting the action into the stock some of the devcon got onto the front action screw and went right up into the action. I scrapped out as much as I could with my finger and a chamber brush then used the bolt to clean out the crannies just like you did. I was sweating one hard.

I have used Accraglass gel before and didn't get the heat issue. Any ideas as to why? Only thing I can come up with is the difference in release agent( I used clear shoe polish) or ratio of mix??

I have gotten it pretty hot a few times. usually was talking to someone and stirring it. Seems if you whip and go it does whatever, but try stirring it for 10-15 minutes.
