Hey guys,

I just purchased a Leupold VX-6 1-6x24 30mm scope for my Daniel Defense AR-15 monolithic flat top upper (it does not have a front sight). I want to add Butler Creek flip up sights as well. Does anyone know what ring heights I need? I figure if I go too low that the charging handle may get in the way of the eyepiece.

Here's a pic of my AR.

Thanks!

Re: What ring height do I need for an AR15 ORC?

On DI ARs folks usually run 1.4-1.5" rings. Drop that to ~1.125" for piston ARs.

Everybody is shaped different so YMMV

Google image up a piston AR (e.g, HK416, POF P416). Compare that to your DI AR and you'll notice the piston cylinder system at the front of the rail is really beefy and requires the flat-top rail to be ~0.35 taller than the DI rail to fit the recoil system. It's easiest to see if you look at the top of the charging handle in relation to the top of the rail.
