Getting a second hand Rock in 308.

Thinking of starting off fixed 10x MQ Mil/Mil, but know I’ll want to upgrade eventually to what?

Suggestions?

Hunting, paper punching mostly for uses.

I have a 2003 built GAP 308 that has the Schmidt & Bender 4-16x42 scope on it with P4F reticle. It's a great scope in a light package. Here' s recent thread on it:

What kind of reticle, magnification, and weight are you looking for?

I'm assuming you have a decent budget since its a GAP, so you have a ton of options.

I've owned both the ATACR 4-16 and AMG 6-24. They are both great fur hunting and range use without feeling like you strapped a brick to your rifle.

My favorite scope for most of my hunting is the ATACR 4-16x42
When I'm not needing something quite that nice and don't need ffp, I run NXS 3.5-15x50's.

I would want a first focal plane scope and an ATACR F1 4-16x42, while an excellent scope, will run you a little less than $2500. The used S&B 4-16x42 in the PX is $2200 and comes with TPS rings which is only a little above your $2K price limit. I have TPS rings for several of my scopes and they are excellent rings, they hold well and I've never had one mark any of my scope tubes.
