I did a quick search on here and I couldnt find slings that people recommend or recommend you stay away from. So what sling do you use or which one would you recommend and why?

I’ve been using a vtac padded sling. Started using them on ARs a while ago and really like it. I was going to move to a more purpose built precision sling but can’t find enough reason too. I can do multi- positional shooting and carry really easy and the quick adjust is great for getting a really tight position off hand.

Maybe ignorance is bliss?

I agree with Rerun7. I have a box-o-slings (and other associated accessories). I came to the conclusion my rifle would be carried or slung more than anything. The padded VTAC sling is the go-to sling for carry and positions. No attachments. Just add what is needed for your rifle. It is amazing how many shooters at matches look, try and buy the VTAC after watching me run one on my AR.

Hmm good to know. I’ve never even been to a PRS match so I’m trying to acquire the items I’ll need/nice to haves before the spring. Looking to hit up a few throughout the Midwest and maybe one down south this year. So I appreciate the input. No one wants to spend money to find out they bought an inferior product or a product that will not do what they need it to do.

Fighting with an SBR: single point Tactical Tailor w/HK clip.

Vickers sling (the nice one) for most stuff. A padded one for a .50. I like the adj. straps on these and the fact they make 'em with IR reducing hardware.

Precision shooting: Military '86 (or is it '85 they made the good ones?) 1907 leather shooting sling. Still nothing compares to those. Turner Saddlery makes the best new ones I hear. I like my tan military sling, it's years old and STILL isn't fully broken in. Not all military issue slings like these are the same, you gotta find the right year. They're like wine or some shit I guess.

An SDM sling we designed using M14 buckles and silent AR slings; kind of a light, poor man's 1907 but far superior for an SDM rifle or M4 with an ACOG.

Never was into fastex clipping the rifle to my gear, the one piece allows me to throw it to the side, but I saw a LOT of people that did that.

I have a VTAC sling that I use for PRS on the odd occasion that we have an offhand/kneeling/seated/prone slung stage. I carry it around in my backpack but never use it otherwise. Just carry the rifle by hand from stage to stage. Almost none of the shooters I know are using slings much during actual competition. Magpul makes another low cost/low profile sling that would serve the same purpose.

If you intend to sling the rifle over your shoulder as you move from stage to stage then I like the bungee slings like Rifles Only FTW or Carbine sling. I had a carbine but sold it since I decided I could just carry the rifle around and it was less crap to deal with sitting in the backpack.

Thank you all, I appreciate the input. I've been looking at the different ones. I think the Rifles only does have some advantages or features that are nice. I would say, that its good to know that I'm basically buying a sling and will probably not use it a lot. But I do believe in the buy good gear the first round so you dont have to replace it.

For positional shooting I would recommend the TAB Pinnacle rifle sling (PRS). What really made the difference for me was the video Tony made demonstrating the use of the sling. Without an arm loop, Tony's technique is simple and allows for tremendous flexibility in moving from position to position. The design (and this isn't unique to the PRS) was intended for the shooter to get on target, then with the off hand tighten the sling. This gets you about 90% of the tension you need, the remaining you lock down with your elbow, or rotate your shoulders to lock in.

With some practice, it becomes second nature and I find myself using the sling in nearly every position except prone. There is a webbing loop if you want to attach the rear of the sling to a belt carabiner for shooting off a barricade or tripod. If your intended use is offset the weight of the rifle in a patrol carry position for extended periods, you may want a bungee style sling.

I think people might underestimate the usefulness of a sling as a shooting aid. I'm new at this so I could very well be wrong but I've done some barricade drills with and without a sling back to back and the improvement in steadiness and recoil control provided by the sling was pretty obvious. In this instance the sling was rigged tripod style from the forearm to a clip on my belt buckle.

just picked up a tab gear PRS and i am really liking it, way easier to sling up then using a sling with a cuff. also was told they are coming out with a bungee end for which i think will make it even better!
