i have been to two gun shows in the last two weeks trying to find a sling for my blaser tac 2 with schmitd bender 5.5-25 on it. it is a 338 laupa so it weighs a ton. there was nothing there that looked like it would work. i dont want to have to worry bout my weapon falling off if it breaks. can any one point me in the right direction???

TAB Gear with Cobra buckles will probably lift 5,000 pounds before failure (the buckles are rated at 4,000 pounds or greater). TABGear.com, the customer service is the best.

Re: what sling would hold a very heavy weapon

I think you should be more concerned with what sling could help you comfortably carry your long range boom stick.

Try this....

or this...

Now there is going to be someone who says that it isn't a sling that is designed for a precision rifle. And they're right, BUT, and yes I do know that someone wouldn't end up humping this thing around, but it does happen.

Especially when you hunt

+1 on the Tab gear. Jason set me up with one two years ago and I am still learning about all the things you can do with it. I have used it with my Snipetac that comes in at 26lbs with no issues. As a low-tech alternate though you could go with the padded M60 sling if you'll normally be carrying at low-ready. My .02

I like the Elite Biathalon Sling at RO. I will admit that and definitly buy one.

But experiences like lugging a M249 up and down Georgian(USA) hillsides has taught me so much more.

Sure you MIGHT get a choice on what weapon you want to carry, but if you don't then at least give yourself a better advantage through less sweat and effort.

Re: what sling would hold a very heavy weapon

There was a video on here where someone hooked there sling and rifle in a tree and did pullups with it. Your not going to have a problem with the small weight of your rifle...

TAB Biathlon....

I just got mine and could not be any happier with it. You can tell they really took the time to think this through and it's built tough enough to tow an Abrams.

I went with the $125 version and it's pretty slick. I have flush cups in a Manners stock, and it takes all of 2 seconds to pop it on and off the Rifle. Once you get it, just mount it anyway you see fit, tighten the top strap to center and pull it close up between your shoulders to take up any wobble, and off you go.

+1 on the biatholon sling! It works so many different ways! U can sling up quickly for shooting, carry your rifle "backpack" style, or even throw one sling in front, the other in back and essentially have a 3 pt sling!

Re: what sling would hold a very heavy weapon

I have never noticed the super heavy rifles carried sling arms much. Onto and off a range perhaps. Most carry one with both hands if moving any distance, carried in a backpack type scabbard if any real distance is to be covered. Still good to know it can be done with pretty much any sling available, just not sure anyone really wants too.

Course I told a Chey-tac owner if he was to ever take that out too far he'd do well to attach wheels and drag that puppy. He just laughed and let me shoot it, Chey-tac owners are good like that.

Re: what sling would hold a very heavy weapon

I couldn't find a sling that would comfortably hold up the weight of my heavy rifles, AND be useful as an accuracy aide. Then I saw a design for a sling that used 3 layers of webbing rather than the standard 2 layers. The sling looks similar to a standard sling, but clever placement of the sliders allows the three layers to be extended into a sling having only 2 layers and is very long.

When I extend the sling out, the 2 layers can split apart and allow me to carry the rifle in a manner similar to a biathlon sling. I can use the sliders to make the sling either long, or short. If I wish, I can make it short enough to be used for the traditional support aide to shooting.

I don't know what the design is called, because I found the sling many years ago and bought one. I haven't seen the design anywhere since. The one I bought was 1 inch wide, and I buy 1.5 inch webbing, and sew the slings to whatever length I want. I can put on standard QD swivels, or the flush cup swivels. However, the design of the sling means that the swivels have to be sewn into the sling for it to work properly. Very clever design.

If anyone is interested, I'll be happy to try and explain how to make one for yourself. Webbing usually costs about 10 to 25 cents a foot, and a nice sling takes about 8 feet of webbing, two sliders, and two swivels.

I don't have the ability to post photos though..
