Choate Ultimate Varmint Stock or the Houge overmolded.
I'm wanting a new stock for my remington 700 sps. I'm not wanting to spend a whole lot of money This rifle is only used for hunting and some target practice. I can get both stocks for under $200.

Just wanted some ideas. Thanks for the help.

Re: What stock is better

The Choate is too heavy but is a comfortable stock to use AFTER you have sanded down the checkering points so that you can have some skin left on your hands.

The Hogue has always felt like you are hanging onto a huge eraser.

The B&C's are a very nice stock.

And another vote for the B&C. Seen the Choate Ulti, that was more than enough to keep me from buying one. Hogue came on a PSS I got, wasn't strong enough to hold up the gun without flexing against the barrel.

I had the medalist and thought it was a great buy for the money, but if I was buying one now, though, I'd probably get the light tactical because I wasn't really a fan of the BR type frontend on the medalist.

Keep in mind that you're spending a couple hundred bucks, that puts you only a couple hundred bucks away from a used or base-model Manners or McM.

Another vote for the B&C.

You can also pick up a used H-S Precision for around the same price. Depends on which you think fits you better.

Raf,

Those are 2 really good links, Thanks! I had no idea those B & C's looked so good. I think this is the one I have to have:

I'm just not sure exactly which Remi action I have? It's just a 700 SPS Varmint, and this says BDL action. I'm not sure that's the action it has?

I'll Google Stockade Gunstocks to see what they got.

Thanks,

-Pat

SPS varmint= BDL SA (SA=short action)

Just swapped my houge for a light tactical(700SPS Tactical .308). Took it to the range today and its a WORLD of difference. Once i got it re-sighted in @ 100yds there were alot fewer "flyers". I didnt think that the little bit of the Houge stock that contacted the barrel when it was on the bipod was that big a deal. I was wrong.
