What's the closest R700 trigger to the AI 2-stage trigger(Cadex, Tubb, Huber, CB X-Treme)?

I want something that is close to the same feel and just as reliable if possible.

What are my options?

So far I am looking at the Timney Calvin Elite and the CG X-Treme Mod 22 with the Mod 22 seeming to be the most robust from what I can find.

Unfortunately being a lefty the CG triggers were out for me. I have a build in progress with a Tubb T7T trigger with the goal to replicate (and lighten) the AI triggers I've grown used to over the past two years. The T7T allows 1st stage weight and travel distance, and the 2nd stage weight can be adjusted. It even has an adjustable shoe like the current AT/AX triggers.

From what I've read, the Tubb triggers are designed for reliability in harsh environments as well. Not sure it (or any other trigger) is as bomb proof as an AI but I will be testing it out this season so we'll see!

Aaron at Bighorn recommended the Tubb trigger as well for the most reliable. He said that my TL-2 would need to be brought up to current specs for it to work though so I will have them do that as well as DLC it for me. I figured I should get everything done now as it probably won't be possible after the DLC is applied.

I ordered a KRG Bravo for it as well with the thick tang cut so I need to find out how it would handle the Tubb trigger too.

Maybe Massoud has an idea on this?

I am very exited about this build even though I wasn't planning on doing it. I have impulse control issues LOL.

Up until recently, I ran a Tubb on a TL2, an AT308, and a TRG. All 2 stage and great triggers. I honestly could not tell you which I liked the best. They were all set at 1 lb/1 lb and functioned flawlessly. For a custom build, I would highly recommend the Tubb.

Other than being $100-$200 more than other options, and having a bit of a wait for a lefty, the Tubb looks to be a great option. He has some videos online and/or on the Superior Shooting Systems website that shows the myriad of adjustments, along with some ice and debris testing.

I would give my vote to the CG Xtreme Triggers. They have a huge pedigree in the target shooting world because of how adjustable they are. I personally have one of the older Model 21 triggers on my PRS rifle, and it has done pretty well. The only thing I recommend is using blue loc-tite on the adjustment screws once you have them in place where you want them. It's also the same trigger that is used on the new MSR's, and Remington sniper rifles.

The Tubb trigger is pretty sweet but it's oversize. It won't fit in any of our chassis unfortunately. You might be able to force it with some creative dremeling but it looks like a ton of work. We had somebody send one up to us to look at. They just really tossed the Rem 700 "envelope" out the window. Fortunately there are other good triggers out there. Good luck,

I kind of figured that'd be the case Justin but I appreciate the response!

I am really looking at the Cadex trigger right now as an alternative to the Tubb as it has the adjustable trigger shoe. I have XXL sized hands with long fingers and my wife has small hands so being able to move it would be helpful.

Do you have any idea if it will fit? It looks to be more of a standard design.

That's a good point about the Tubb trigger being oversized, I forgot about that. When I ordered my chassis from MPA I had them do a "custom" trigger inlet that's bigger than standard.

My favourite 2 stage that I have shot is the CG 22 but it is not very close to my AX, or at least the way I had it set up it was not close. I got my Timney 2 stage to be close ish but it does not have the amount of over travel and the 1st stage doesnt have the same level of resistance.

I really like the AI 2 stage trigger but I am actually transitioning away from my AI for the 2018 season and will either run a Timney CE 2 stage or maybe spend the big bucks and go with a CG.

I am thinking that I will get the CG-22 most likely as the Tubb will just be too much of a PITA to get into the Bravo chassis.

I really like the fact that it blocks the firing pin like the Tubb does. I wish it wasn't so expensive but I don't want to cheap out only to regret it and have to buy it later anyway.

I think I may wind up selling the 308 bolt head though as I don't see myself getting rid of the AI and if that is the case will keep this rifle as a 223. I will also wind up selling my T3 CTR as I won't use it.

I have an AX as well as a TL3 with a CE two stage. I have them adjusted similar with no complaints.

I have been a big fan of the Timney Elite trigger, the 1.5lbs one. I upgraded that on my R700 and custom Lazzeroni build. I really enjoy those triggers.

I can say the CG can 100% be adjusted to be like an AI trigger. The Timney is basically the budget 2 stage trigger offering. I have not touched a Tubb but I can tell you the CG has survived everything NSW Crane has thrown at it and survived without issue and is currently in the mk13 and mk15 rifles.

Hopefully that will fit 700 clones.. been waiting on Bill to introduce 700 style triggers for some time. Says AI and Stiller only but Stiller is a 700 footprint.. so hopefully.

For the thread title i've had two Timney CEs, a BnA Tacsport, and have a huber on the way. BnA has been the best i've used thus far though it was very different. Both my Timney's had creep. I should've messed with them though.

The Bix n Andy trigger is nice for a bench or clean environment but fails easily with dirt and debri. At the PRS finale at least 6 went down hard. The Geissele triggers still feel different with the trigger pivot point so far forward, I have used them as well.

I have a Cadex 2 stage and the adjustable trigger shoe is a nice feature. Frank at Bartlein said its the closest to the A.I. trigger...

well. I have an AI and have had a couple of the triggers you mentioned. the CG doesn't really feel like the AI, especially in the shoe. the Timney is closer, but the first stage is lighter. I guess I could make it heavier, but I didn't want to do that. I have the flat shoe on the Timney, so I can't comment on the curved shoe to see if its close to the AI or not. its prob close enough though. nothing is going to be exact as AI has their own thing going. for the money the Timney CE 2 stage is a nice trigger. brakes clean, some over travel like the AI too.

US made and marketed CG mod 22 is simplified configuration and only fits rem700 and clones.

European made fit 10+ diferent action types as its a moduar trigger with different uppers and sear configurations availible basicaly with dedicated upper it can be fit to any action that you can think of.
