Whats the hungriest you have ever been?

Hungry enough, I will eat most anything.
Hungry enough, so will you.

In Alaska, there is a "delicacy" that is reserved for very special occasions. It is called Stink Flipper. The indigenous will harvest a walrus and after taking care of the meat, the hide and the various bones that are useful, they take the flippers and stuff them into the stomach along with whatever was already in the stomach, and bury the package. In a few years...maybe 5 or 10 or more, the package is dug up and distributed at the special occasion.

Entire families die from botulism during these special occasions almost every year.

I wanted to taste it but just could not get over the stench...I was not hungry enough and I didn't think the occasion was all THAT special.

So...like the balute (spelling?), who in the fuck would consider digging up a gut pile for a feast?

Someone who was very, very hungry. After that, the "feast" was had to honor the truly lean times.

My friend, John, who I have mentioned gifted me with venison and even elk meat, also had squirrel meat.

One time, he and a cousin got a feral hog and gave it to me to smoke on my charcoal grill. It was large enough that I had to break the back to fit all of it in.

Worth it. Heavenly dish.

I don't particularly want rat, especially since they can carry the Hanta Virus. Especially rat tar-tar.

Reactions: Aftermath

Close...no "e" on the end and yeah....nasty fucking stuff. Spent three years at Clark AFB in the Philippines. Great food in general...eh, just balut.

I did have dog there....it was stewed and they consider it an expensive delicacy so when offered I had to take and eat some. Not awful but I couldn't get past the fact it was a dog (and I love dogs....no coyotes, real dogs).

Now in Maryland there is a traditional eastern shore dish of stewed muskrat. They used to (maybe still do) sell them in markets. And it takes a LOT of preparation to get as much of the nasty fucking taste out of it as possible. I've had it once...it wasn't awful...but I'd never eat it again.

Cheers

I couple times i have gone an entire week with only water. After the second or third day you start to get used to it. By the end of the week you start to feel really good. Mental clarity is amazing.

Im sure much longer than that and hunger would come back with a vengeance.

I have started eating 1-2 meals a day. Mostly like 1 1/2.

On one meal a day the stomach throws a fit for a few hours. It has shrank and most times a smaller meal is enough.

Today one big slice of chicken potpie and some cream cheese snack. I have lost 30 pounds and about 4 inches of pants size.

I missed a few meals in the military but it wasn't a huge loss.

If the rat came from a place without sewers etc. I would try it.

Couldn't stink worse than an anchovy, or taste worse than raw muscles.
Edit: or that stinking cormorant we tried once, the dog wouldn't even eat it.
