Range Report whats wrong horizontal stringing

I have 24 inch kreiger barrell on a remington 700 action that has been trued. It is on a bell and carlson medalist stock that has been bedded and i just put a new shilen trigger in it that is set at 2 lbs. I have loaded several different loads, and have found that they all seem to shoot the same. I have a horizontal string with each load. I am not showing any signs of pressure problems and its not me b/c im not doing this with my other rifles. I thought it might be me but I shot my other 7mm-08 with the same trigger, and I was shooting them into 1/2 inch groups. Here is a picture of one of my targets, what could be causing this string, these groups are all right at 2 inches at 100 yards

Work on the seating depth.

Powder charge will dial in the vertical stringing adn seating depth helps the left/right wander.

Sperm shooter, thanks for taking the bipod off your rifle COULD HAVE USED IT YESTERDAY. I have the bullets seated as far as the magazine will take them, I'm going to seat a little deeper. Most of the groups were with max loads but there was NO pressure signs so, I'm going to load up and down from where they were. There was no wind, and my position was what it always is. I shot six groups with this rifle and they all look the same.

Try dry firing a bit and see if its just you anticipating the recoil or jerking the trigger around.

and savvy the OAL ogive nut that tells where the boolit meets the lands......the seirra's like to jump as do others..

Wind and/or cheekweld causing left/right scope shadowing. The Bell and Carson stock needs a stock pack or adjustable cheekpiece to get your eye level with the reticle.

I've never seen a Kreiger barrel on a trued action that couldn't shoot like the tackdrivers they are. Get yourself squared away before you start monkeying around with your loads. If you are in doubt, use some Federal GMM and you'll see.

Stupid ass, it's not that.

To our OP: your barrel may be warming up or it could be wind, you didn't say if there was any wind or not. (ok so no wind)

I noticed that my strings would slay out little horizontal when my trigger pull wasn't consistent, Also play with you OAL a little.

2 inches of horizontal at 100 yds. is a lot. I'd be surprised if it's you.

You've already done what I would have done to check that.... fired another of your rifles to see if you forgot how to shoot (been there!)

I'd start checking action screws, base screws, scope rings, barrel tightness, barrel clearance to stock, scope integrity.

Somethings way wrong and you're just going to have to start eliminating variables.

Just for grins, do you have a friend who knows how to shoot, to double check your possible driver error? If you do find that it's you check 90* on trigger finger and thumb on tang as well as consistent cheek weld with NO craning.

Horizontal stringing of that at 100 yards would tend to indicate the shooter and NPOA and or trigger.
At 100 yards the wind would have to be screaming to have two inches.
As stated above all these comments are based on the rifle being set to proper torque specifications.

Have you considered the online training?

When I Googled "horizontal Sringing" a couple years ago (because, duh, I was experiencing horizontal stringing.

) every reference said basically, "<span style="font-weight: bold">IT"S YOU</span>". That's when I learned about some of the factors I mentioned above. My personal 2 big issues were cheek weld and thumb position (I was inadvertently steering the rifle during recoil).

Since then I've had some stringing issues that DID turn out to be mechanical in nature. So I'm not as likely to pull that card, but it must be considered.

OP You didn't mention what caliber (or I missed it). Is this a particularly heavy recoiling rifle?

If it's not related to any of the above mentioned items, it could be the load. Your accuracy node will string vertical then horizontal when passing a node. You may be past the accuracy node a little. (did you change lots of powder or bullets?) Since you shot another rifle and confirmed you're still shooting ok, I would assume it's the load. I would try some charges just above and below the one you are loading. I'll bet the accuracy will come back then.

Do both of the 7mm 08 rifles you're using have the same rate of twist? If not you might try changing bullet weights.

Have another shooter that you know is a good shot try it out.
If the stringing is still there, start changing OAL/powder/bullet/charge one factor at a time.

Are you chasing POI with the scope possibly? A bad scope can cause that if you keep messing with it while shooting.

Another bit of info that might help out, is it stringing in order of your shots like 1-2-3-4-5 or 5-4-3-2-1? Or is it stringing them randomly like 3-2-1-5-4? If its in order then it could be something working loose or heating up as you shoot. Randomly shooting on the string, probably an issue with the shooter.

OP,

You could have a multitude of problems. CALL YOUR SHOTS. Yet, inconsistent stock-weld is the place I'd begin trouble-shooting.

what kind of rear bag are you using?
