Im using winchester 308 brass with varget and I have shot all the cases about 4 times without tumbling. My question is do I really need to tumble all my brass after each firing to maintain great accuracy and consistancy? I mean I clean the primer pockes and the flash hole very well an I also clean the outside of the case and even the neck part where the bullet sits. So far what i have noticed is that when my cases was new they didnt hold as tight of groups as they did the second time around, and even after reloading the same case 3 times without tumbling its shooting more accurate then ever.

The inside generally doesn't NEED to be cleaned, but its recommended. The reason you need the primer pocket and flash hole cleaned is so the primer can seat and go off properly, the outside needs to be cleaned so you don't degrade or damage the FL die, other than that I see no reason to clean the inside of the brass, although not cleaning the inside might affect how much powder you can fill the case with.

I think you answered your own question, no you don't have to.
But you should wipe them clean before sizing them to protect your sizing die. The grit will bite you someday.

But to answer you subject line: when do I need to tumble my brass?

Do it between 12:00 midnight and 8:00 in the morning.

Re: when do i need to tumble my brass?

As mentioned, your dies prefer you to run clean brass into them.

Also, if you're running a max (or close to max) charge, you need to be sure the case has NO FORM OF LUBRICANT on it, be it grease, oil, wax or even dust - as that can allow the brass to "slip" rearward upon firing, and be pushed too hard into the boltface, causing signs of overpressure.

I run max charges, and mine require squeaky clean brass to avoid pressure.
