Rifle Scopes When was the Mil-Dot reticle adopted by the US Mil

I'm doing a small 5 minute presentation for an instructor class at work and am doing it on Mil-Dot ranging. Just wondering when the US military adopted the Mil-Dot reticle? I tried looking on Google, but could only find scopes...

Just thought I'd throw in a little background info...
