Where are all the CZ 457 MTR's ???

Just curious what is going on with CZ and why the CZ 457 MTR variants are made of Unobtanium? Outside of GunBroker or the occasional rifle on a classifieds somewhere priced for more than retail these things are exceedingly tough to find. I am the type that really likes to see something in person before handing over my hard earned money for it but that seems like a non-starter if you are looking for any CZ 457 in an MTR variety. Supply chain issues or what ???

Supply and demand. It's 'the coolest' 22 rifle at the moment and CZ isn't keeping up building them, which probably is good that they don't rush it and compromise the quality and reputation they built up.
I'm definitely with you on handling and checking out things in person, especially when it's not an exactly cheap item... Have checked a few non MTR CZ's out and their wood stocks are really nice, so the MTR won't be different there I'm sure!

I got one on a whim when area 419 had their package in stock. It’ll shoot as good as my Vudoo. I think I got pretty luck with the lottery on it. I’ve had a handful and they’ve all shot “ok” to “well” but this ones above the rest. Might also check out MidwayUSA. I got my MTR Manner’s through them.

As someone said above, they come in waves. CZ really gives the US all or nothing when it comes to getting their high demand rifles in stock. I remember earlier this year it was about a 2-3 month drought before the market was flooded with them for about a month before it was gone again.

You have to remember with the growing interest and rimfire and economic sensitivity to expense centerfire, the MTR is considered one of the most desirable rimfire rifles out of the box due to accuracy, reliability, and aftermarket support.

I got this email from Whidden GunWorks today. Looks like they have some coming in stock.

We have bedded the stock on these rifles, adjusted the factory trigger, and inspected and borescoped all of these. These modifications are all legal for ARA Factory Class. Current and future MTR owners - I competed with my new MTR in two matches this weekend. I had really bad cold bore shifts. 4 stages into the match on Satrurday, I started using a finger cot that I bought a while back, and it made a huge difference. There are videos and discussions about the effect of trapping the air in the barrel that has more moisture after live rounds are fired.

On Sunday, I put the finger cot on right after zeroing. I forgot after one stage to put it back on, and noticed right as I was readying for the next stage - and I had the cold bore shift, and missed the largest target on a KYL - hitting all of the others after that miss.

If you have a first round flier that is bad, try the finger cot. I am a 100% believer. Hoz and Shield sells a slick magnetic one. I used the simple one, and it worked great as long as you remember to put it on.

After waiting for several months to find one locally I finally took a chance and bought one off the Rimfire Central classifieds. I haven’t got to shoot it yet but am pretty happy overall. I will probably ad a weighted Arca rail to it but it already has everything else I would have done. Timney trigger, Area 419 30 MOA rail and it’s an MTR with a threaded barrel so I can put a can on it if I so choose.

I just got one at Riflegear (DFW). It's been on the shelf so long it was discounted. I'm waiting for a scope base. Can't wait to punch some paper! I have not seen to many on shelves but this one was there a bit too long. So far I love the stock. It wont be cold to touch like my metal frames (Vudoo). I already adjusted the factory trigger. It's very crisp!

TexasGunExperience has a few flavors too, online. They were not on the shelf at the store.

Where do you shop in DFW?. I do see quite a few CZ. They are a bit hard to get is what I was told by a store employee.

Nice score. I have checked Rifle Gear's website several times and haven't seen any MTR variants listed in TX or CA. At times they had other models like the At-One. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

I must be the Maytag repairman of CZ MTR rifles. I have one, never fired, for some reason, have had it for two years. It is the one with the big chunky walnut stock, non threaded bbl. I just purchased a stainless drop in bbl. about six months ago, they are getting harder to find, it seems……..anyhoo, I just got a Bravo grey chassis for 457. I intend to try the factory bbl. action with the chassis installed. The trigger ( factory ) has been set pretty light, I am satisfied with it. Before I put this MTR in the chassis, is there any real need to do so ? If not, I will post another taper barreled action in the chassis, and use the Walther barrel. I have a notion the real potential of the drop in bbl is based on getting a proper headspace. Is there an easy way to check that ? All help is appreciated ! Gr8 shooting wished for all !

Installed a WOOX stock.
Area 419 Arca rail and 30moa scope mount. Athlon
6-24x56 scope and a MDT send it level
Also has a Warne bipod. Haven’t shot it yet.
I’m having Carpel tunnel surgery in a couple days so it may be awhile. It’s near 10-20 degrees here anyway

I just installed a Area 419 30 MOA rail and a Vortex PST-5255 5x25, sendit level and this ones first groups are less than 0.5 inch at 50 yards. It doesn't seem picky on ammo either, or should say it groups well with Lapua Center-x, Midas +, SK Standard plus, Eley Contact, and Eley Match. I was skeptical on how a 16.5 inch barrel would shoot. Not any more.

Eley match and Midas seem best but very little difference with all those.

I'll clean it up today and take it out again soon. I'm very pleased with it's performance. It's right up there with my Vudoo Apparation 20".
I love the Nightforce NX8 4x32x50 much better. I would like to get another maybe someday.

I got some ELEY Tenex ready to shoot.

My carpel tunnel surgery healed quickly. I also did shoot during the healing. Surgery was on my left wrist, I'm right handed so I still shot a handgun. The cast I had on my right arm since I had cubital tunnel surgery at the same time too. I used it for a rest. It worked pretty good. I also used it to rack the slide by leveraging the red dot.

Here are a few bore scope shots on my 457 MTR. What is interesting is there has been no carbon ring so far, and I shot suppressed same day of these pics and how great the rifling/barrel looks. I'm comparing it to my Vudoo that did get a carbon ring. I'll take before and after cleaning photos on both CZ and Vudoo to see how they compare.

Grouping photo 50 yards/ Center-X, suppressed. The groups tightened up suppressed. Micrometer is just to show scale, not as an exact measurement.

Maybe this should go in a different thread.

Finally got my CZ 457 MTR Manners tuned up. Here's what I did out of the box to get it competition ready. Not much.
1. Torqued action screws to 30 in lb.
2. Reconfigured the firing pin adding the notch to strike the primer area, think Pete'sPilliar mod.
3. Added Area 419 scope base.
4. Added DNT 7-35x56 FFP scope.

It was shooting good out of the box but not competition good, it had flyers. Fixed those by torquing the action screws and modifying the firing pin. Shoots between 0.2-0.3 inch at 50 yards now. Good groups suppressed too as shown but I won't use the suppressor for competition. It's now on par with my Vudoo at about half the cost. 16.5 inch barrel too. About 300 rounds may have helped a bit too. Using a bore scope I notice the inside of the barrel is darker than my Vudoo. My guess the hand lapping on the Vudoo shined it up.
