Where does everyone shoot in Colorado?

I live in SE Aurora and I can't find any damn public land to shoot on. I always end up driving for 2 hours every time I want to teach a new shooter, or fire at anything past 100 yards.

Any help would be so appreciated

Re: Where does everyone shoot in Colorado?

colorado rifle club is about 40 minutes from you and has a 1000yd range. Pawnee grasslands are a little farther. Tons of land east of you. The owner of the motorcycle track out by the landfill on gunclub road used to let me shoot on his property but I have not been there in several years now.

Re: Where does everyone shoot in Colorado?

You could try the Colorado Rifle Club, assuming that the range isn't being used by tournaments.

Most weekends this year are already booked, so I suggest trying to shoot during the week, and hope that the range isn't being monopolized by lame firefighters and fat people shooting at 200 yards.

Not that I, as a member of the CRC for 14 years, would have such an opinion, mind you.

Yep and it is.

Re: Where does everyone shoot in Colorado?

If you're not already there, head over to colorado ar15 dot com; there are some local competitions that get posted about there.

Two I know of for sure are the safari steel challenge in Raton, NM and the Steel Prairie Dog thing that Hoser puts on in Pueblo. I haven't been to any shoots in a while, but, plenty of guys from your area make those shoots. Might be able to expand your social circle into some shooting land that way.

Both of those shoots are a lot of fun. The Raton is one of the better ones I've ever done.

Indeed. The steel prairie dog shoot is always a good time, but the Raton match definitely gets one out of typical comfort zones.

As far as I know, no one has cleaned either course of fire yet. I think the record for both stands at 1 target under perfect.

Thing I enjoy about the Raton match is the fact that anyone who wants to bring their kitchen with them has to carry it all. The way the course is run really forces one to think about true essentials vs luxury items. No F-class style mini-trailers and all that unnecessary crap.

Very true. You don't know how much shit you have until you have to pack it around a course. This course also challenges your dopes and ability to come up with a solution pretty quickly.

I did the P-dog course a few times but it's not worth the 4+hour (one way) drive for me but if it were closer I'd do it all the time.
