Im looking to find a Howa 1500 or Remington 700 Barreled Action for my first ever precision rifle build.

I have a low budget of ~$1100 for the whole rifle including the Barreled Action, the Stock, the Scope, the Rings and Base, and possibly a Bipod.

Id really like to get build a R700, but if thet route is too expensive then Ill get a a Howa 1500.

With that said, I cannot find a Howa or Remington barreled action to save my life! Maybe my searching skills are sub-par, but I just cant.

So Ive come here in search of some help from you experts.

Once I find a barreled action then I can start searching for a stock, scope, rings/base and a bipod.

Thanks!

For Howa actions:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/SearchResults.aspx?Keywords=howa+barreled+action

Remington does not sell barreled actions by themselves, so you will have to look on for sale posts here and there or post a "want to buy" to see if you get hits. Or someone else can chime in if they know a place.

Good luck. Howas are good to go to build on. Pete Lincoln here would be the one to talk to.

Oh thanks, that's perfect. Dont see a heavy barreled option though, I guess standard do.

Ill look into Pete Lincoln

HOWA

I saw that and I want it really bad, but I wont have all the money until tax day(my birthday haha)so I dont want to get my hopes up on something that may be gone soon.

Ill bookmark it though!

???

The first and last 8 listings with "HWB" in the title are all heavy barreled actions. And then there are 10 listings with "HEAVY" or "HB" in the title which are also heavy barreled actions...

I have narrowed some out for you:

Oh sorry, I saw the HWB and clicked one thinking it may mean Heavy, but it didn't say anything. Thanks for the clarification.

From that bunch it looks like only 2 are .308 and only one of them is heavy, but its stainless too. I guess stainless would be alright.

$450 for the barreled action. Awesome, that leaves me $650 for everything else. Time to start doing some more research on the accessories.

Thanks.

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

I'm new to the sight, but I had to reply to this one... I recently built on a Howa 1500 action, and you won't be disappointed. Nice rifle, but you can get on gunbroker and pick them up pretty cheap... Paid 326 before shipping for a few months ago. Might be cheaper than buying a barreled action. Built the whole thing for around $750 with optics (buckmaster 6-18X 40) Tried to build the cheapest rifle I could, but it shoots easy .75 MOA with non match Hornady ammo. Let me know if you have any questions...

Good point.

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

Yeah, I was originally going to go with the Sniper Central Howa package, but the wait is a while due to the stock. So I figured I could just build the same rifle but get a different stock, or get it from a different place.

This one is not Stainless.

For $450 I don't think you are getting the stainless, as the SS ones listed are $500+. When in doubt, don't take my word for it since the postings are vague at best with too much marketing messages, just ask the seller before buying.

Tag on the same B&C stock listed on Snipercentral, add a good EGW base and rings, and you'll be good to go even shooting from front and rear bags.

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

Oh wow, awesome. Im about to buy that in about 15 minutes once I get my FFL dealer setup.

It will be the first piece in my build. I wont have the money for the rest until 4/15.

That stock isnt on GunBroker at the moment so Ill have to get it from Stockys.

Thanks!

I keep pointing out this deal online. I don't know the guy, but it seems like a pretty good bargain for a complete package including ammo. Not sure why somebody hasn't scooped this up yet?

Red Flags!

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

Damn, thats such a good deal. I like buying new, but Im going to contact that seller and see if he still has it.

What's you opinions on a 20" barrel? What about the scope. Decent?

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

a 20" barrel is what I shoot. Folks at Rifles Only shoot even shorter barrels at 1000 yards.

No idea about the scope, sorry. But 240 rounds of ammo will get you started at the range, that's for sure!

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

I just called the guy and asked for some info on it and he was kinda rude. He had a hispanic accent and was really hard to understand and every time I asked a question about it he just gave me a really vague answer.

I guess Ill just go with the other plan, but maybe get a Hogue stock instead of the B&C. That will save $100 and Ill just get a couple sandbags(any recommendations?) instead of the bipod and that should save a bit as well and then the money I save I can get some ammo to break it in with.

If you can wait a little longer and save up, do it, don't settle for the Hogue. I have a friend's Howa heavy barrel with hogue and Nikko Sterling scope (one of the packages Legacy sells) currently, at the range it would maybe group 1 MOA at 100 yards sometimes, partially due to the heavy factory trigger, but mostly because the Hogue's forend is flexible and when using bipod, it would touch the barrel. Not sure if it will do the same with bean bags, but better safe than sorry and get yourself a good rigid stock to start off right! there are way to make the forend more rigid but the money you spend doing is better saved for the B&C.

I am currently waiting for a B&C medalist A2 stock for this Howa, which I will bed for my friend. the B&C comes with a full length aluminum bedding block which will provide a good basis for bedding.

Re: Where to buy Howa 1500 or Rem 700 Barreled Action?

With the Howa's there are two different Hogue stocks... one is pillar bedded and one has a bedding block... to strengthen up the forend just get some fiberglass resin ($11) at wally world, mount your bipod, remove your barrled action, level the stock, and fill the forend up to the top of the ribs, and let it harden. it's quick and easy... you can also remove some of the outside barrel channel at the bottom and this will prevent contact when shooting from the bipod..... Help buy you some time while waiting for your new stock....
