Got a good buddy with an LR308, heavy barrel 18"- he's interested in putting together an upper with a light weight 18-16" barrel for hunting in the woods. I've looked around and found something on the DPMS site, but it doesn't have any specs listed really and no picture so he wouldn't really know what he's getting. Brownells does not seem to carry any barrels for the LR308.

Figured someone here might have a good place to look. Economy is a factor, precision accuracy is not (we're talking deer within 200m- tack driver not required)

So what I'm getting is that the DPMS barrels from DPMS are likely about his only option for a decent price?

Yes, there are others but those are match and cost around $500 and not a light barrel.

Fulton makes a "lightweight" 18" for 344. It weighs 2.5lbs I think. That or find a deal on a DPMS carbine barrel new or used.

To be honest he's probably better off trying to find a deal on a factory DPMS carbine upper all put together rather than building one.

edit: unless he can get a deal on parts somewhere finding one of these on sale would probably be his best bet.
