how come i dont see many on bolt guns, i think the rem 5r would be a sweet gun with a 20" barrel, would it be crazy to cut that barrel down?

Are you talking about naked stainless? Because if you are just talking about stainless 20" barrels in general, there are a ton out there. Most anyone with an aftermarket barrel has them in stainless. As to the craziness of cutting down a 5r barrel...not crazy at all.

well i guess im not seeing as many because they are coated, the reason i brought it up is because i may be getting the sps t but the only thing holding me back is this is going to be a gun that i will have for many years and it would be so nice to have it in ss, i want to stay around the 7lbs but cant afford the xcr compact

Buy what you can afford and then shoot the shit outta it.
The sps family of rifles have shown to be great shooters with little to no modification. I like the 5R but I bought the sps t so that I could spend the savings on parts I really wanted. Stainless or not, they shoot very well.

well im huting south fl so the gun is going to be hunting in the nastiest condtions, i will hunt rain or shine so i want it to be able to take the abuse, i notice alot of guys paint there guns or use the krylon, is this just to cut down on glare or does it really help protect the gun? thanks
