Rifle Scopes Which 3.5 - 15 Nightforce options would you get ?

Just wondering if any of you could choose a 3.5 - 15 x ? Nightforce scope, which one would you get and why?

I am getting back inot this rifle game again and have always had leupys, so I aks because i would like some of you experienced shooters to tell me what I should spend my money on and why.

It will be for a Rem 700 AAC-SD rifle that will eventually have the stock replaced and if need be after shooting it to see what it will do, I may have some work done on it but I will wait and see.

Which objective would be better?
Which recticle for the scope?
Are the new high speed turrets worth the money?

F1 with MLR2 reticle has received good reviews since Shot Show. 50 mm is better unless you are hunting at dusk/dawn. The new HS/ZS turrets are worth it. The HS elevation turret is a huge upgrade over the old ones and the ZS feature is a big convenience.

I vote for 50mm objective and NP-R1 for MOA and MLR for mil. The high speed turret and zero stop is nice to have.

That would be my choice as well. Depending on how important focal plane is to the type of shooting you plan on doing. That needs to be considered too, FFP doesn't come cheap if that's what you need.

After my experience with the 3-15 and npr1 I would do the mil dot reticle, high speed ZS moa knob and 50mm obj. (IMO the npr1 was way to fine in low light and hunting scenarios, but I still prefer moa adjustments, and the mil dot works good for LL and hunting in brush..)

*I do have to say the npr1 rocks in my5-22, you may want to consider the higher power scope. I have shot them side by side and the 5-22 gave nothing to the 3-15. They are nearly the same weight, you looses a few moa that is about it.

I'd also opt for the NP-R1 reticle because I just prefer MOA adjustments. The smaller objective to avoid having to get higher rings. Zero Stops because they are more than just a convenience, especially when you are in a situation where you can't take a shot to confirm zero. I believe the high speed turrets are a standard now, so you get them anyway.

As mentioned, some do find the reticle too fine, but that can also be a plus if you like shooting at really small stuff. When I find the reticle hard to see at times, I hit the illumination and that does it for me.

If you don't need the 3X, I'd also opt for the 5.5-22X unless you need the FFP reticle and want a NF.

For MY type of shooting/hunting, the F1 is a must have. The ZS and HS turrets are nice to have. The 50mm works just fine for everything that I need to do. I prefer the MLR reticle.

It all depends on what you plan on doing with this scope/rifle..... What are you plans?

MLR and 50mm. If you are going to shoot over 500 yards, get the HS, that way you don't forget how many times you turned the knob.

NPR1, new knobs, 50mm would be my pick. My only thing is I really like FFP(holdovers) so if I were to spend that kind of money I would probably end up spending more and getting a razor.

Get the F1, 50mm is all us mere mortals will probably ever need, FFP reticules, Zero Stop and Fast turrets Standard.

Well get them pennies out...I just put one of mine up for sale yesterday.

I also happen to agree with getting the NF F1 and it's not because I've purchased a couple and I'm selling one right now. I believe hands down that it is one of the best deals on the market when you look at the features, durability, repeatability, ease of use, and the amount of support that you get from the company. I've used a few different brands of optics from Super Sniper to Schmidt & Bender but in all my dealings Nightforce has been consistently good in nearly every facet.

I just got a f1. High-speed. Zero-stop and the Horus reticle. Dont have it mounted yet but i think ill like it.

I went with the 50mm mil/mil(MLR) w/zero stop turrets and love it. The high speed turrets came out a while after I bought mine. I've never used them so I don't miss them... but they do sound nice.

Well, dusk and dawn imply low light situations. The larger objective lens of the 56mm model means that you will have a larger exit pupil at any given magnification, which in turn means that more light will get through to your eye, so you'll see a brighter image. All other things being equal, the scope with the larger objective will be brighter in low light.

However, a larger objective won't make up for things like crappy glass or coatings. The size of the exit pupil at any given magnification can be calculated by dividing the size of the objective by the magnification level.

The exit pupil for the 50mm model at max mag would be 3.33mm.

The exit pupil for the 56mm model at max mag would be 3.73mm.

It doesn't sound like much but the 56mm model has an exit pupil that is about 12% larger. Personally, I don't see much of a difference and opted for the slightly more compact package.

This one has the NP-R1 in it and i'm probably gonna be sending it back in for a velocity reticle change shortly as it's for coyotes and i like tree-style ballistic reticles for that application--

+1 and F1 (first focal plane) is nice... if you need it.

A nice thing about the np-r1, if you shoot the smack the smiley match, it works well on the small .4" bullseye. Meaning it is one of the thinner reticles.

mil-mil or moa-moa is all personal preference, I have both and like them both however if speed is of the essence mil is quicker (at least for me).

I have never wished for the 56mm objective and I have used the 50mm in some dark timber areas durring the last minutes of twilight. If you go to the 5.5-22x you may want the bigger lens. I can't say either way as I have not used one... But I do get along just fine with my 6.5-20x40 leupold. just my 2 cents.

I also opt for the F1. Reasons being FFP mainly. The rest of the features are a plus but only the F1 comes with FFP. It's also 1oz lighter than my USO SN-3, S&B PMII, and the premier 3-15x50mm. Thats not really a big deal to most, but what i plan on buying a nightforce in the future for will be a light 18" rifle, so i want to reduce weight as much as possible. If you plan to use reticle holdovers/Mil targets, get the F1, if not you could save some money on the SFP versions. I'm not trying to discourage you from the F1 as i said i would choose it myself.
