Rifle Scopes Which ACOG?

Hi guys,
Due to a worsening astigmatism in my dominant eye only, I was told to try out an ACOG. I plan to run one on my KAC SR15 for mostly shooting inside of 200 yards. My HK will sport my NF ATACR 1-8. I’m planning on going with the 1.5 ACOG, but I’m wondering if I should go with the compact size or the full size (TA44 or TA45)? The SR15 I want to shoot with is 16”. Thanks.

Im in the same boat, been researching these exact two models for my WC 16" 300 HAMR hog rifle. From what I've read, the TA44 is the way to go. The FOV is a lot better and the eye relief is still good. Im going wit the TA44 since I won't be shooting outside 150 yards

I similarly had the same dilemma as you. I purchased a TA 44 (green reticle) and really wanted to love, it but it just didn’t compare to my TA31.

For me the TA44 has a tunneling effect in that you focus too much on trying to see the hash marks for a longer shot, or the reticle getting washed out on a shorter shot in sunlight. It wasn’t as useful as it should have been so I went back to LPVOs, red dots and the TA31 for under 200 yrds. However, the Elcan Spectre-dr might be something you might consider if looking for an in-between optic.

TA-31 for the win. ECOS reticle do-able out to 600 for me.

Been there done that. I would go with a ACOG TA02 4x32 LED.

Acogs have been obsolete for a while now. Overpriced prisms with a bunch of drawbacks. Been there done that carried one in combat. Find a good lpvo in similar price range. It's much more versatile.

1.5 is a little light for 200 yards, isn’t it? 3x or 4x I think. 4x32 is the standard answer.

This guy makes the best videos I've seen on acogs. I ended up getting a ta02 with a piggyback dot.

ACOGS are far from obsolete, tough to beat a 4x with RMR on top! I prefer the LED models

if anyone is interested I may look at getting rid of my 3.5X LED acog .308 green horse shoe reticle on ADM QD mount, like new, it is on my .308 LMT, and is amazing on it, puts bullet holes on bullet holes at 100 yards where I have tested it.

I may want to get something larger for stretching it out, thinking 1-8 sco vcog

i use the ATACR 1-8 on my SR15 so I am familiar with LPVOs. Would I want them on more than one rifle? Not really. I run a T2 on my SBR it’s just the brightness has to go down a lot to not kill my eye. That’s why I wanted to try the ACOG for my new incoming rifle. I’ve even heard the VCOG can be better than the ATACR in certain situations. I’ll check one of those out when I can find it.

anyways, I firmly prefer acogs / elcans / eotech + magnifiers over lpvo,

not a lpvo fan by any means

my 4x led acog with rmr is not going anywhere, I would not sell
my 3.5x Acog if I had the resources to spend 2k on another optic without selling it

it puts bullet holes in bullet holes with a horseshoe reticle, I am content with it and it would very much so do the job, realistically even in a shtf situation no one is going to be engaging past 100 or so yards, fantasy world type stuff. perfect battle optic for reality.

I have a 16-20" 308, I would like to stretch its legs with target identification so a 1-8 / 1-10 or even larger seems like a logical choice to be able to see further? right? 2+2 = 4 unless were doing common core.

does not mean I prefer the lpvo over my acog, the 1-8 vcog is practically a lpvo acog, If they made a 6x or higher mag acog that was smaller then the current 6x tank monster I would get it over a lpvo in a heart beat.

Are you considering an ACOG as a replacement for a red dot or because you want to move to some magnification?

Have you tried an Eotech HWS?

I ran a TA44 for years. It's a very nice sight with an adequate field of view and very forgiving eye relief, but it ain't no red dot replacement.

If you just want to get away from red dots and want some magnification, an ACOG TA31 or TA11 backed up with a red dot is a pretty flexible rig. Pretty bomb proof too.

The most practical thing to do would be to grab a 1-6x lpvo and call it a day.
