Looking for suggestions on an Anti-Cant level to put on my long range rig. Will be going on a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 HS ZS. And before I get chewed out for not using the search, I tried. Just not very user friendly.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I have them all and my favorite is the Flatline, but I haven't got to test the Spuhr yet as it is going on my new build to be complete next month.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I like a USO rail mount. I never use it unless I am shooting say 600yds or more. I use my rigs for hunting also and I like that the USO swings out of the way and basically isn't there unless I am going to be using it.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I prefer ones I can see clearly with my left eye without breaking the prone position;

NO LINKS

I'd hesitate to get any design where the bubble itself hinges or swings. It just seems like I'd be asking for trouble in that the bubble could be telling me lies. For example, many of you know US Optics recently redesigned their hinged version because of too many complaints about it not being truly level

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

In my mind you will always have some cant due to set up etc. I use the bubble to make sure I am in the ballpark enough not to mess up long range shots. I don't care if it is 100% level I just want to make sure I am within a few degrees. Like posted above I just reference with my left eye to assure I am not way off.....unless you are shooting in a vice some cant is always a part of the equation and in a field situation only a lot of cant is going to make a big difference. I am sure other folks employ it differently but for me and my results from using it as a "make sure I am close" reference it works. For probably 75% of my shooting even in the mountains and uneven terrain my judgement through the scope is right on.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

+1 you got to get the offset kind

i have a few , the cheaper plastic ones work but they are hard to see.

i like the vortex , it's very nice. Big.

i have one of these to , i don't get much use out of the angle degree indicator , you need to shoot at some serious angles to make use of it , but it does have a built in level and is pretty tough considering it seems like a cheap piece of plastic

if i was going to spend 50 bucks on a level , i'd get that.

Ohhh is there anything in your regulations banning you from using both eyes?
If not, here is what I use.
Open left eye and look at the level at the same time as looking through the scope......

Since I never specified which way I shoot, I find your "suggestion" laughable. I guess I need to clarify that as a right-handed shooter I was actually implying the use of both eyes in my first post. My right eye through the scope, and my left eye on the level.

Please stop trying to pimp your products through your poorly masqueraded shooting advice. I don't need it, nor your cost prohibitive setup.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I have the old style David Tubb level, its mounted on the barrel directly behind the muzzle brake, but if I was buying a level today it would be the Accuracy 1st, the reason why is ball levels are much more accurate than bubble levels, second on the list would be David Tubbs new scope mounted level, I had a USOptics folding level and nothing is better than one of those IMHO and because of the bad taste in my mouth from it I do not trust folding levels so the FlatLineOps is out of the question.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I really like the Flatlineops Sniper model as I wanted something super reliable that will also flip out of the way. It's not cheap, but I think the design and quality merit the price. It has some desireable features that I have not seen in any other product offering...and I have done a fair amount of research on the subject. I've used it in a few matches with good results and no problems. I would recommend it without reservations...

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

The Vortex level is nice, the offset feature is what I desired when ordering. Ultimately sent it back as it was way to bulky and interfered with mounting the scope using low rings.

May be very hard to add to a scope already mounted.

I plan to try Tubbs new scope mounted level.

Re: Which Anti-Cant Level???

I doubt anyone noticed but the Flatline Ops level was on the scout recon marines rifle in the Magpul Precision video. I'm not implying that should be a factor in your choice, it's just something I noticed the other day after I had already purchased one for my own rifle. Anyway, here's the screen capture of it.

Will a flat line fit on a NF NSX 5.5x22x56? I'm confused on what the measurement is on flat lines website? is it the tube diameter? but it looks like it mounts on the ocular diameter which is 36mm? Just getting into to this so sorry for the basic question....

I hate to bash on gear especially American gear, but the Accuracy 1st just did not work out for me. I had 2 different levels from A-1st and both had the same problem, the ball would hang up if you were slowly moving the rifle. I also did a lot of side by side testing with the A-1st and a few different mfg levels using a bubble. I found the bubbles resolved movement much faster and more accurately, they were also more repeatable. I truly wanted the A-1st level to work out for me because I think very highly of Mr. Todd Hodnett as an American Patriot but in the end I could not get the level to resolve accurately and repeatable. I informed their C.S. about my findings and maybe they have addressed and corrected the issues. If you guys have found the A-1st to be as accurate as the traditional bubble levels then please let me know, I will place an order for another one to try today. But at this time these are my findings YMMV

I'm surprised how much talk there is in this thread of guys looking through their scope with one eye and at a level with the other... That's truly a talent! ;)
