Which brake?

Looking to move from shooting suppressed to using a brake for competition shooting.

I'm shooting 6GT shooting Berger 109 LRHT at approx. 2900 - 2950 fps.
23 lb. rifle. (MPA Matrix)
Mostly positional with some prone comps.
Looking for a brake to keep me on target.

APA fat bastard gen 3.
Shot a bunch of different ones. I settled on that. I recommend it.
Rifle used is a impact, comp contour, foundation stock and its rock steady shooting 6 dasher.

Having have shot PRS rimfire I found a tunner to be bennificial so maybe look at Cortina's tuner brake? Might not be worth a damn, might give you the brake you seek plus a little something extra?

I like the APA gen 2 or 3......for simplicity. I am a psychopath when it comes to keeping crowns clean. I do etch witness marks on the barrel, brake, and collar to ensure I get everything back to the same spot with the same torque (give or take a few lbs as things wear). This probably doesn't matter......but I figure if slight adjustments on tuners affect stuff......inconsistent brake location might also.

In this regard, I salute area419.......one time adapter install and very repeatable brake/collar location. Cheers.

You can't go wrong with any top tier brake these days.

I picked up a .30 cal Area 419 Hellfire Match in black nitride primarily for my 6.5 but really for anything up to .30 cal. Very happy with it. Only thing i wonder is if the SS wouldve been a better purchase due to the ease of cleaning.

I've tried quite a few and love the Area 419 Hellfire Match. Very easy to time!

His brake is not effective enough for PRS. If someone wants a tuner break something like the TMB would probally be better.

I have atleast one of each (APA, ACE, A419, Heathen). They are all similar. Area419 gets the nod if you run cans too.

The ace is excellent recoil reduction and is soft on the shooter even prone. Some of the other high end brakes will wear you out over a 2 day match

Most all the common brakes are very effective. From the Hellfire match, ACE, APA, the new MDT comp brake, I really couldn't tell much of a difference between them, although I didn't shoot them all back to back in the same day. I bought one of the TMB's from strikewithoutwarning a few months back, that was the first brake I've shot where I literally said, "wow that feels different."

I had pretty much used the Area 419 Maverick the last 2 years in comps and its awesome but I've gradually switched over to the TMB for my bigger matches.

I’ve only run two, Hellfire and Ace. Both work well but the Hellfire will beat you to death concussion wise.

Look at the new Insite Gen 2 Heathen Brake. The original was awesome at recoil reduction and reducing concussion to the shooter. I find the Gen 2 to be noticeably better.

I use and can recommend the Heathen 5-port (Gen1) it's the least obnoxious for the shooter behind the gun that I've tried (still barks fuck you to everyone else lol).

I've also tried the A419 Gen1 Hellfire and the APA Fat Bastard Gen3, and while both were probably a little more effective at reducing recoil than the Heathen if we're splitting hairs, they both mucho sucked behind the gun for me, you can feel those ones in your nasal cavity and they can be punishing headache-makers IMO.

I want one, but other than the short package it's hard to go to a brake from a can.

I guess if most people are running a brake that day then may as well not a run a can and be the only quiet guy.

With the 419 setup you just use the suppressor adapter and you can switch back and forth in literally seconds.

I only ran my suppressor for years but wanted to try the brake for recoil reduction. I feel like it’s better so now I use the brake on my match rifle and suppressor for everything else.

I've always had bad luck with getting the A419 brakes stuck on the adapters.

I switched from the original Area 419 Hellfire to the Hawkins tank brake for this reason. The horizontal ports don't reduce the recoil as much, but at least I'm not getting blasted anymore.

^ This is what I have experienced as well.. I have tried a bunch of different brakes and the ones that mitigate recoil the best also have the most blast. I like the 419 Hellfire Matches..
