Hi, i have a 308 Winchester bolt action rifle (Sig SSG3000).

I'd like to change the caliber to something more forgiving. I've received a lot of great information from the members of the forum....calibers such as the various 6mm derivatives such as the 6BRA, 6 Dasher, 6 Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor among other options.

I forgot however to ask which would be easy to effect , merely by changing the barrel, keeping the bolt and magazine the same and not having to use a flame or hot salt or lead to mold cases.

I'm hoping to improve my current format to facilitate accurate long distance shooting while affording less recoil. thanks

A few...

Short actions with a bolt face of .470"

225 Win
22-250 Rem
6mm BR
243 Win
308 Win
300 Savage
7mm-08 Rem
260 Rem
6.5x284 Norma
284 Win
338 Fed
358 Win
250 Savage

6.5 Creedmoor or .260 Rem would be the choice for many...but I'm a big 7mm fanboy... had the 7-08 out yesterday ringing steel with boring regularity at 656 yards. BUT...for reduced recoil, consider the 6BR (or Dasher).... Recoil chart:

thanks, I've been strongly considering the 6 Dasher but not sure if my magazine would feed it reliably...I did see that Grafs has cases available for reloading
