Which die set would you recommend M1 Garand '06

Re: Which die set would you recommend M1 Garand '06

A lot of people recomend Small base dies for anything Semi auto but I've used just plain 30-06 dies(RCBS 2die set) without any problems.

I use Lee pacesetters.

edit: I should add, I don't do any real precision loading for the M1. I buy surplus ammo when it's cheap, then buy bulk surplus brass/bullets and load with new powder and primers, so there may be better options out there.

I have also noticed that brass doesn't last very long in this gun, not sure if it's the gun or the dies. I'm too cheap to find out

Dillon dies have been doing fine for me. If I hadnt got them with my machine I'd consider the Redding Match Service Rifle 3 die set.

I use the RCBS 30-06 X-sizer dies with my Garand. For a few bucks more, you have the option of minimizing trimming. If you don't want to deal with it, you can just back the mandrel out a few turns and use it as a standard FL sizer. These rifles likely have "generous" chambers so it may not be worth it, but I like to have a consistent die setup for all my semi-autos. I also lightly crimp with a Lee FCD.

FWIW, I'm working up from 46.0gr of IMR-4895 with 147gr FMJ-BT M80 surplus pulled bullets. Happy shooting!

Mine are the regular RCBS 2 die F/L set. Been around a lot of handloading for Garands, never actually saw an instance where a Small Base die was truly necessary for the Garand.

Maybe I lead a sheltered life, but that's my experience.

I use the RCBS dies without issue as well.
