Let me just start by saying I have done axtensive searching on here but can't seem to find the information I am looking for. If you have a link handy to an existing thread that would answer my question feel free to provide and I will gladly read it.

What I am looking for is a good factory rifle that I will eventually put into a new chassis/stock once I learn to shoot it as is. Long term I would like the factory rifles action to accommodate putting it in an MPA or KRG chassis or possibly a manners stock and later be able to eventually build a custom rifle while still using the chassis/stock. Many people I see recommend the Savage, RPR, or Tikka. Do these actions have as many options for custom actions/barrels as a Remington 700 action does?

I am looking at approximately $2k for the rifle/chassis or stock. I Intend to use it for local PRS style matches mostly 700 yards and under with some shoots out to 1200 yards.

All input is appreciated.

I'd go with lennyo's suggestion. Having work done on a custom is sometimes fun, but you have to have patience, I don't. I'd buy something that is ready to go out of the box. If your dead set on a build, out of the ones you mentioned I'd go with a Tikka.

PVA Hancock seems like a good deal, though I'd bet it will be a year for some get their rifles. Want it now, buy a Tikka CTR and the MPA chassis. My tikka action is smoother than my stiller. Factory trigger on the Tikka is real nice too.

If time is of the essence, buy a Howa 1500 barreled action in whatever caliber you want from Brownells. Plenty of stock and chassis makers inlet for them (KRG being my favorite). Timney makes triggers for them. And now Criterion has prefit barrels with the Bighorn barrel nut that needs no special spanner to install.

My second 1500, bought as a package from that other sniper website about 8 years ago, came with a very similar stock (the butt was identical). It was impossible to shoot it with any scope mounted on a 20 MOA base because the comb is just too low unless the occular is barely above the bolt.

Rifle went into another, more high end, fiberglass stock: same problem. It never fit me right till I dropped it into a KRG 180-Xray last fall.

He's better off getting either the HCR or a bare heavy barreled action and a 180-Xray chassis.

Savage has come a long way in the time since SH came into being. They even helped facilitate the emergence of the SH Ghost Dancer Rifle, the first SH endorsed Custom LR precision rifle for F Class competition back in 2001.

Once the only factory pillar bedded rifle maker, the pillar bedding system has become superceded by the AccuStock system, which is, in fact, already a full blown chassis system providing secure location of the barrelled action in all three axes. Coupled with the AccuTrigger, and now the brand new AccuFit system, the Savage already offers rifles which have the grand majority of features many shooters would pay to have added to their factory rifles as custom modifications.

Savage has long been looked upon here as a factory rifle that is well suited to owner-performed barrel replacements/swaps.

Go to the Savage Site to see the videos explaining the many enhancement Savage has incorporated into its line of products in recent years. Try out the powerful gun finder feature of the site to home in on a firearm that best suits your needs. Savage provides a vast variety of factory choices that correspond to the custom rifles and specialized factory rifles that many here often ask about similar to your inquiry here.

For example. Savage 110 Tactical Desert.

I second the Tikka with MPA Competition Chassis. That is what I run and I love it. Solid 1/2-3/4" gun at 100 yards if I do my part. If you shop around you can find a Tikka T3x and MPA chassis for right at or under $2000.

I do have the opportunity to acquire a .308 Savage 10-FCP-SR 24" in an MPA BA lite chassis at a good price. Any reason this would not be a good rifle setup to start with and spend the extra cash on better glass?
i'd suggest 6.5 creedmoor. a lot of quality factory match ammo out there at 308 prices. and trust me, while the 6.5 definitely cheats wind better than 308, you still have to be able to read wind to get hits, so you're not going to miss out on any learning opportunities.

If you want to shoot now, order a Tikka CTR in 6.5 creedmoor and the chassis of your choice (If you so desire). Shoot it until it wont hold under 1 moa, then evaluate what you want in a custom. I shot mine in factory trim for nearly a year.

This is conjecture, but PVA has got to be swamped with orders and the line for their "production" gun has got to be really long. I could be wrong on that, but you can be shooting your new tikka next week (in most states).

My Tikka T3X a1 shoots lights out. Stretched it out to a 1000 yards yesterday with 5 shot group...top one is two hits. It was an approximate 6” group with wind. Tossed a $10 spring from “Yo Dave “ for a crisp 1.5lb trigger.

That's a safe approach. We took a number of steps to prepare for the Hancock launch (more space, more machinery, etc). Right now our delivery schedule is looking to have rifles shipping on the times quoted on the website and currently we're looking that the lead time for something placed now is going to ship in mid June.

Suggest a diff route look in px here great deals can be found. Little over 2k and you can get trg22 or ai mkii or oil

Was able to grab a trg42 300wm last week for 2550 with spuhr mount

Edit: and no waiting on px purchases

See, I should have researched a bit more to see if you had posted a lead time. That's not that bad at all, considering the quality of the product.
