Re: which is the better buy?

I wish I could find a Mark 4 mil/mil for $1300. Everywhere I have seen so far is upwards of $1400. I will say I love my two Mark 4's, however to get them to be mil/mil I am going to have to send them in and would rather sell them to get another Nightforce. I know it may not be the popular thing here but I will go ahead and give the Leupold a vote since my experiences with them have been outstanding.

Re: which is the better buy?

SFWA by a ways... Better glass, and really stepping up in the market as a 'better quality name'. As much as Leupold has made efforts in the past two years to change their new reputation of 'riding the name' I don't think they've come far enough yet to warrant it. In fairness though, I am not at the cutting edge of seeing their new scopes at work yet either. Just what I still see in stores, which hasn't impressed me. Not when I can go USO and beat them in price and literally go miles further in quality.

Others, have given them the thumbs up in this category. Most notably our leader, LL. If your serious about dropping that kind of money on a scope you might PM him and ask his thoughts on what they've done to improve. Again my take is what I see in stores. That could be up to 5 yrs. old in inventory. So, they may have stepped up the quality, I'm just not in a position to see it.

Make a fair judgement on what YOU see.

Not trying to start anything but a friend of mine and one of my uncles have the HD models and while impressive I could still see the price difference in quality. The SS is a better deal however you get what you pay for.

Re: which is the better buy?

I am going to take a little different approach at this and say Leupold is an amazing scope and has great glass no doubt about that, how ever they are expensive and have few reticles to choose from. For the money I would have to say SWFA and use the extra money to buy more ammo for practice.
