Which rifle would you consider more accurate a M1A or a heavy barrel FNAR. I have been told you can sink allot of money into a NM M1A and when done you have about the same accuracy as the weapon you started with. So keep it stock and enjoy it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Which one?

The FNAR will shoot better out of the box and its cheaper.
The M1A is a great rifle none the less. If you can feel both rifles and decide which feel you like more than go with it. I like the upgrades on the M1A but if it were stock rifle to stock rifle I would go with the FNAR, JMHO

1+ my comment should have included that I sold both to buy a custom .308 AR so I guess that tells you what rifle to get if you change your mind from the previous two.

Re: Which one?

Don't know a thing about the FN AR, except that I think it is as ugly as a bag of azzholes. My rack-grade(standard) M1A would shoot MOA regularly with Hirtenberger ball ammo or better. It had all military parts except for the reciever, and I had added a small amount of JB Weld to the stock at the tip of the forend to bed the assembly. That tightened groups about 50%. JMHO, most may disagree.

Re: Which one?

I had an M1A and the costliest part ofthe whole thing was finding a solid mount and doing it properly. The first one I tried doing the mount came off. The second one I had a gunsmith do but it shifted the windage of the scope so much I ran out of windage adjustment. The latest one I had the brass would bounce off the mount and caused a jam of some kind. It always got stuck in the charging handle on the way forward. Save yourself the trouble and go the FN since you had a bad experience with the AR platform.

Re: Which one?

Thanks for the advice I think I will just leave the M1A as it is and enjoy it for what it is. As far as ugly hell I would go with ugly every time if it meant hitting at 1000 you can be fashionable or and take second best or go ugly and win. Can anyone think of anything to be done to the FN AR to improve it or leave it as is?

Re: Which one?

It is a matter of preference. I have have an M1A NM set up with a Leupold 3.5-10x on a Smith mount/rings sitting in a McMillan M3A stock. I love the rifle and it looks very cool but it ended up costing a little over $4,000 when all was said in done. A .308 AR will probably shoot just as well out of the box but I just had to have my M1A.
