I have a new LaRue 20" complete rifle. I will use it for 100-600 shooting. I have had both a UBR and a PRS from Magpul, and both were great stocks. But this is my first truly precision AR and I am thinking I should go with the PRS.

Can someone who has used both extensively talk to me about them?

Specifically genII upgrades. Also, what about the genII PRS package with built in monopod?

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

Well, first off this is just my opinion from my experiences with the PRS. I think the adjustable length of pull is nice, and the weight helps balance the rifle out. But the adjustable cheek piece is pretty much worthless for what i used the rifle for. It basically remains in the lowered position because if you shoot with your face forward, your cheekweld will be in front of the adjustable piece. If you position your face where the adjustable cheek piece is you will have your neck erect and it would look all funky! Its a good stock and I would probably use another one, but some people get all worked up over that feature and I think it is not very useful for a standard setup. Here is a picture of mine.

Again, mine was a varmint/precision set up, not combat type application.

I think I have settled on the gen2 PRS. I am wondering if the package deal that included the gen 2 stock and an accu shot monopod would be nice for this setup?

Would be nice to be self contained and not need to carry a rear bag. Anybody using one?

+1 on the MAGPUL PRS.

I saw a couple of fully adjustable AR stocks and chose this one. My JP15 is shooting sub MOA groups. The PRS stock adjustments give me a natural spotwell and comfortable reach, both contributing to an accurate shot.

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

What do you mean but spotwell? Hate to sound ignorant, but I have not heard that term.

I assume you are talking about cheek weld. Do you mean like a spot welD?

Either way, that is a beautiful AR. What are the specs on it? What kind of loads are you using?

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

Also, Max, do you share the other opinion about the adjustable cheek being useless?

I only owned one briefly, and I dont think I ever adjusted it out of the full down position, so I dont remember having an opinion on it.

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

Stockwell is what I meant to type. Brain was not engaged. I do mean the cheek to stock posture that positions the eye in line with the sights or scope.

The adjustable cheek piece permits the height of the stock to be situated so that the shooter does not have to “muscle” his head into position, possibly affecting the natural point of aim. It along with being able to adjust the stock length customizes the stock to the shooter’s body. International small bore and air rifle shooters have more adjustments than you can shake a stick at. All are meant to adjust the rifle to the individual’s natural shooting position rather than having the shooter adjust to the rifle; thus taking muscles out of play as musch as possible. I have seen a book or two that discusses proper stock adjustments. Will see if I can find one to refer you to. It would be a good review for me as well.

The rifle is a JP15 with JP low mass operating system and adjustable gas system from JP rifles @ www.jprifles.com/1.2.2_JP15.php Added the MAGPUL PRS stock. The back up sights are the A.R.M.S. #38 STD SWAN SLEEVE RAIL (raised rail w/ integral flip up rear sight) & M.I. MCTAR-FFG flip up front sight. The scope is a USO SN12R w/JP reticle.

Keep cranking on the brain, eventually it will engage.

What you were really going for is stock weld. Some also call it cheek weld.

A well is something you draw water from or slam a mag into.

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

+1 on the PRS. The beauty of having so many adjustable elements is that you can fine tune it to your needs. Unless, of course, your posture or anatomy exceed the adjustment range!

I prefer a lower cheek position/scope height, so I find that I don't have to adjust the cheek piece up.

This decision would be based on whether or not you like a monopod in the rear. Have you ever tried one?

Personally, I prefer sandbags, but that's up to you. My AIAW came with a rear monopod. I use a sand bag with it (Redman from Triad) and find the monopod is in the way. That's just me.

I've got a PRS on my AR-10 and love it. They're great stocks.

Re: Which stock for precision AR?

Have a UBR on my LR308, Solid stock with comfortable cheek wield (NTCH). Never used a PRS, but really don't see any benefits for how I shoot over the UBR.
