Hello gentlemen, building a new light weight hunting /play rifle for the wife and kids . 6.5 Creedmoor will be the flavor . Have a trued up 700 floating around a manners T3 en route and about to pull the trigger on a 24” proof sendero carbon fiber Barrel . But have no clue which twist rate will best fit the bill . I will not be reloading for this caliber. My reason for choosing the 6.5 is the ability to find ammo for it almost anywhere ,light recoil and I don’t own one yet . I will try to stay in the 140ish grain weight for the factory match ammo . Again it will be for wife and kids to shoot paper ,thin out the deer herd and shooting hogs in the face . Any advice on twist rate would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

8 twist it is ! Elevation will pretty much be zero . It will be used in east ,south tx on our deer leases. I really appreciate the info as I was literally about to click the add to cart button on a barrel and when it said which twist rate I had no idea . I didn’t wanna call or bother my smith past 5:00 . Glad there’s a place like this where we can get real info . And to the 308 pirate , no need to stay up late at night with a soft pickle and troll the net . Get some cialis bro life will get better. Thanks again guys barrel has been purchased ???

Is pick the fastest twist I could. A light bullet can't over stabilize unless you spin the jacket off of it, but a heavy bullet needs a faster twist. Depending on the bullet and manufacturer they may recommend a particular twist.

Running a 26" barrel on a Browning X-bolt Hells Canyon Long Range McMillan Ambush with a 1:7 twist with .25" groups at 100 yds and 1" groups @ 300 yds with the Hornady ELD-Match 147gr. Doesn't like anything much under 140 gr though...consistently inconsistent groups and tumblers.
