Suppressors Which would make the least noise suppressd?

I'm eagerly waiting for my Thunderbeast 30BA to be released from custody and was planning on using it on my JP-308, AR-15, and 7WSM bolt gun. I want to use it for hunting at a friend's house that has some kinda close neighbors for deer, and I don't want to upset his neighbors. Shots will be close, most under 75 yards. The 7WSM is really too much gun, but I've heard that bolt guns are somewhat quieter than semi's, so I'm a little torn. Of course, I'll shoot them all when I can, but from those of you with time behind a can, which of the 3 should be the quietest? The wait is KILLIN' me!

PS I've considered picking up a Savage in .308 that is already threaded and ready to go, but I really don't need another rifle. If the difference between a bolt .308 and a semi .308 was significant, I might do it anyway. Thoughts? Thanks!

In my experience, from someone other than the shooter's perspective (and not standing right beside them), then the difference will be indistinguishable with supersonic ammo between those three platforms/chamberings.

The AR platform rifles will seem way louder to the shooter than the bolt gun, IMO.

Depending how close and/or sensitive your neighbor(s) are, you may want to run Subsonic ammo through you suppressor.

I agree fully with this but for the neighbors sake I doubt that they would be able to differentiate between them, with supersonic ammo.

All will have the supersonic crack, bolt guns are quieter to the shooters ear due to the bolt not cycling back like the semi-autos. Subsonic would be the way to go for your scenario. Sounds like you need a 300 blackout with some Lehigh defense Maximum expansion rounds You should be ok with your 308 and some subsonics, hopefully your rifling is fast enough to spin the subs.

If your JP has the adjustable gas block just shut off the gas and cycle it with the charge handle. Supersonic 308 will sound like a 22 pistol. Audible for sure but wont rattle the windows of the neighbors.

Thanks for all the answers. I'm going to have to try out some different things to see what works the best. Should be lots of fun figuring out which combo it will be . Someone had a thread a while back about hunting deer with subsonic rifle bullets, and some of the comments make me a little nervous about doing that, but at the close ranges I would be shooting at, it would probably work out really well. I really need to take a lot of deer off this property due to overcrowding and the damage the deer are doing to the shrubs and plants around my friends house. As long as the report isn't much louder than a .22LR, I should be GTG. Thanks again!

I don't know what the regulations are like down where you plan to hunt, but here in PA no shots can be taken within 100yds of a roadway or house. So hunting within 75yds of your friends neighbors house may not even be legal. If you really need to though, and need to be quiet….ever consider a bow or crossbow?

I'm far enough away from the houses to be legal and safe so no worries there. I've always hunted with a bow or X-bow there, but there are way too many deer and they need to be reduced. The rifle with a suppressor will let me be more efficient in doing that, plus this will be the first year it has been legal to hunt with a suppressor in GA. Don't want to miss out on that!

You just punched a hole through him with no energy behind that bullet. He died I am sure, but it took much longer with less tissue damage to disrupt his lungs and cause massive bleeding.

Next time, I would suggest popping him in the head or spine.

Well dont be a dumbass and shoot a deer with subs like you would with supers. You want to anchor them? Head shots have worked just fine for me. Or you can use some of the 247gr noe cast bullets that havea much larger meplat that will transfer more energy. Ethical subsonic hunting isnt for people who dont undertsand what theyre doing.

I wouldnt say no energy, even at 100yds, a 200gr+ rifle bullet will have the same energy as 45acp at the muzzle. It was just poor shot placement. Even with supers a lung shot deer can run hundreds of yards.

That is not a hunting round even supersonic. Not surprised he ran off. You do not use FMJ ammo for hunting.

ten yards? That should be an easy shot for the fist sized area right behind the ear. More than enough energy at that distance to break the neck and or get the artery.

I have shot deer in the head and ear at ranges from 50 feet to more than 200 yards with everything from a 308 to a 223 to a 250 savage, and I am no where near a marine sniper instructers assumed skills. Ive never shot the jaw off a deer either. I guided hunts for 6+ years and when we had to cull does and bucks to fill management tags, head and neck shots were my preferred way of taking them. Saved all the meat you could, and if i missed, i would miss totally clean instead of wounding it. Didnt miss much, but no one is perfect.
