Night Vision White Phos Vs Green.....

White Phosphor statements from someone there saying that current tubes are Gen 2?? The WPT are FILMLESS GEN 3 devices. Mediocre FOM 2200 and higher with an Omni 8 contract are Generation 2? Gen 2 has not been produced with any US company for many years. The only difference here is the phosphor screen color. In this case, L3 uses WPT with a filmless Gen 3 tube. In fact Harris (formerly ITT/Excelis) also makes a WPT Gen3 tube, but they are not in the wild as much as the Omni 8 Mil Spec WPT tubes.

Now with that said, there IS cheaper Russian true Gen 2 White Phosphor out there with low end numbers. My guess, this user may be a bit confused with some foreign tube offerings.

The argument between color is open to discussion of what users like between the two. We hear some love WPT's with less eye fatigue, some others think green is better on their eyes. No marketing here, but the filmless technology in the WPT L3 is producing looks better in extreme low light vs. green filmed. We are seeing S/N ratios of 38+ and 82LP with FOMS on some Mil units as high as 3200+. The color has nothing to do with the performance spec.

FWIW, I have used green NVGs my whole career. We now have some white NVGs and I really like them. Shapes seem easier to see as there is more contrast, and they seem to be less stress on my eyes.

It would be impossible for me to say if one had an advantage over the other though as I haven't used the same type of NVG with white and green under the same conditions. If I had the choice I would go with white though.

I assume the ATN Night Arrow 4x WPT Gen 2 + are the Russian version with low numbers? Somehow ATN markets it as 60-74 LP. Any thoughts on this ATN Night Arrow 4x WPT? I'm able to buy one from someone locally for under $1k. I've looked through it and it looks great (not much NV experience but I do have Gen 3 PVS14) and works perfectly.

Let's see...

I've played with the ITT Thin film WPT, 33:1 SN tube... the Photonis Intens WPT, and a Gen 2 Photonis WPT.

The phosphor on the ITT is different than the Photonis. The ITT WPT tens to be harder to get your eye back to normal after use, vs a green tube.

The Photonis seems a little more bluish, and is nicely clean (reminds me of the unfilmed L3 green).
