I saw on the news that some US Marines and Rangers are in Syria. Who else is there? I'm pretty sure the Syrian army and Russians won't start shooting each other, but not so sure about everyone else.

As we get drawn in deeper into yet another bottomless pit this one is going to be a lot sticker and a much bigger mess than the past decades of stomping around in the sand box.
As unpopular as this opinion is for the more "enlightened" folk, it may just be possible that some people are still such backward unevolved savages that the only way to have stability in their countries that are barely removed from the middle ages is to be ruled by brutal feared dictators. So far the whole bringing liberty and freedom to the Muslim world has not worked out very well at least the half carried through way we tried to do it so far.

Shit I wish they'd open some enlistments up for people with non-violent small time juve history.. one can only wish :/ atleast until 10 years passes between the time of crime and date of enlistment or whatever, which I damn sure plan to do regardless but maybe if Syria ratchets up they'll open up a spot for me. Hopefully anyhow..
Check out SOFREP Mtcreek, they started requiring a subscription for every single article now which I just dont have the money for.. but thats the best news source out there for everything on what our .mil is doing, and especially our Special Operations Forces. They even have some extra badass CIA spooks writing for them...

what the hell is the end game here, whats the mission? whats the goal? whats the criteria for winning and getting the fk out? Just drop a nuke and call it a day, there aint shoit over in Syria worth losing one Marine or Soldier for. Unles we are willing to decare war and open up all our cans of woopass, until then let the russians have that shithole.

Afghanistan was as justified as any war gets and our government screwed that pooch by adopting the GWOT strategy. GWOT is not a strategy.

A simpler war strategy would have been "Kill or capture Osama Bin Ladin, punish anyone that gets in the way, than screw". We shouldn't have built a coalition. We were struck. We should have handled it. If Germany wanted some live fire training of their pilots so our guys could get some sleep fine, but our fight shouldn't have been dependent on "allies".

Iraq, Libya, and Syria represent the removal of stabilizing tyrants. Let their own people deal with the problem but assist as you can those that actually promise to respect human rights in ways that do not put our troops in harms way.
The French version of the Big Red One didn't mount a beach head in Boston to support our Revolution but lines of credit and representation certainly kept us in the game against the worlds power. Keep in mind that the French didn't do this because they were so enamored of the American experiment. They acted to support their own self interests. We were the enemy of their enemy and therefore worthy of some support.

The tyranny of Britain was no where near the tyranny of these dictators. What does it take to get these guys with easy access to AKs to help themselves?

15 years of war and on the verge of expanding it is not a good thing, its criminal.

Amen, nothing there worth US lives. Fact is assad would be gone by now if not for the Iranians and Russians. Destroyed cities, over 700k dead he doesnt care, how about millions of refugees?. The plan is for russian/iranian footholds from iran, through iraq into syria, it must be important since they are out-spending the saudis and turks to get it.

But what about my GWOT badge!!! Whhaaa!

Fuck that place, agree. It's been blown to shit anyway, nothing worth fighting for, the fucking people that lived there don't want to be there anymore. But you can bet your ass we'll be number fucking one in Syria and it'll be the number one biggest thing America HAS to accomplish or we'll just fucking swirl right down the toilet. I guess that's when you know you have a war economy. Eisenhower warned us, but only after he did his goddamndest to accelerate it. Hasn't slowed since. It's how we deal with recessions.

Who after Syria? Just about blown the fuck out the middle east, all allies dead, corrupt fuckers everywhere, and now your kids are doing EXACTLY what we said we didn't want to happen --them to be over there doing this shit. Remember that? Now we got what's his fuck on here wanting the war to go on longer so he can go. We seriously fucked up and that was not our intentions.

But hey, with 7billion assholes you can have wars, concerts, fuckfests, you name it all going on at once. Maybe these are "the days" because in the future fuckfests and concerts may be gone the way of the cuckoo.
