Who has a Rock Creek Rimfire Barrel

I just ordered my barrel from Rock Creek last week. Its going on my 40xb. Remington varmint contour. Apparently they are putting 5r cut rifling in these. Last time i had heard they were using 4 groove medford rifling. Does anyone here have one of the 5r's? How does it shoot and what ammo does it like. I just bought some lapua center-x and eley match to try in it once i get it back from brian voelker. How you guys liking your rock rimfire barrels?

Have a Rock Creek on my 40X, Brian Voelker trued the action and chambered it. Did a great job, very happy with his work.

Shoot Eley match at an occasional 22lr steel match, SK Standard plus for plinking. Eley Match shot slightly better than Lapua Center-X.

I've got one. Which chamber are you using?

My barrel was chambered with the Anschutz reamer and I have found the the following in regards to chambering:

Hard to chamber - Rem Subsonic, Blazer, CCI Std Vel, Lapua Center X, ELEY Subsonic.

Easy to chamber - Win 333 Bulk, Fed Value Pack, Wolf MT & ME, CCI Mini Mag, ELEY Match EPS, ELEY Match Extra, RWS 50, yellow and orange box.

I can chamber the "hard stuff" but the additional pressure required to close the bolt makes it a HUGE aggravation.

I've shot great groups with 2 lot #'s of Wolf match target and one lot # of "orange box" RWS. None of the other ammo really lit the world on fire.

You just have to get a hold of a bunch of ammo and see what YOUR barrel likes. It's the joy of Rimfire...

I havent decided what chamber to get yet. Im building this for steel silouhette and as a trainer. I bought a bunch of different ammo from champions choice to try in it. Sk,lapua, and eley. Dont expect to shoot much of the cheap bulk pack stuff through it

I shoot mine mostly with SK+ and it shoots quite well. 26" on a Quad in a Manners. I find myself of shooting my 16" very much anymore.

I shoot them in 4 rifles I have and use them in matches ......best on the market,IMHO. All I shoot is Eley Tenex and Match. I have had 2 rifle's from Brian Volker and they both shot great. I now use Gordon Eck to build my rimfire stick's and he builds a hammer.

Contrary to popular belief in rimfire barrels you have to keep the chamber clean.After ever box or so I clean it and good,carbon build up in a good match chamber will have you wondering what's wrong.

Thanks for the responses. Glad to hear good things about rock creeks rimfire barrels(not that i expected anything different). I talked to gordon eck and brian voelker before deciding to go with brian. Gordon eck was going to "sleeve" the action, essentially adding another component between the barrel and reciever. I couldnt grasp why this would be a good thing. Maybe someone more knowledgable could explain this to me? Brian voelker said he doesnt do that.

Not to deviate from the origin of this thread, but is this the standard for match .22's? Chad Dixon spun up the barrel for my 40XB and when I talked to him about it he said that .22's are supposed to be ran dirty, and told me to expect it to take a few boxes for the gun to start really grouping, and then not to touch it until groups started opening up and repeat the cycle. He could have mentioned something about cleaning the chamber but I wouldn't remember.

To each his own, when your groups open up it is usually the chamber that is fouled.So you shoot for score never knowing when your groups will open up. I clean it every time and mine do not open up when least expected. A brush,patch or some isso on a patch will do the trick every time.

My gun is ready for a record target after 4 or 5 rounds. Why would you have to shoot a box or two for the accuracy to start ?

I don't really want to speak for Chad here, but he was saying that that was about how much fouling would be needed to see the real potential of the rifle, and he was pretty much spot on. The gun was about 1 moa until after the 3rd box of Eley, after which it is now shooting easily under .5 moa. I'd really like to re-hear what he meant when we talked, I'll send him a PM and get the story straight.
