who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

It isn't Accurate. 2, 5, 7, and nine are the dirtiest powders I have used. I just
use 231 ball. For super clean accurate loads I use 700x but it doesn't meter and
has to be weighed.

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

Vihta Vuori powders are universally know as clean burning powders -- their pistol powders. Without looking at the manual, I believe N320 is the most common 9x19 VV used. But again, check as my memory often sucks.
I used N350 and 3N38 for years in .38 Super raceguns -- very clean. I still use N310 and N320 for .40 S&W & .45 ACP loads. FWIW: both N310 and N320 are relatively fast powders.

OK, I couldn't live with offer partial advice. It really depends on the bullet weight you are pushing. Makes sense, just like our LR game. But, see link to Vit manual: http://www.eabco.com/VihtaVuori01.pdf

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

I use Clays for shotshells as well as 9mm 115gr loads. I can vouch for its relative cleanliness, as I have never felt I needed to find a cleaner powder. I'll caveat this by saying I moved to clays from IMR-700x specifically for shotshells, and then once I learned it was good for pistol loads it was just a bonus.

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

Go clays and dont look back.

When I first started handloading, it was for an ruger 45vaquero. Well I got told to buy unique, I thought I was shooting effing blackpowder. It was horrid, smoke, soot all over the barrel, cylinder. Needless to say, I found clays and havent looked back, have tried bullseys, its not near as clean as the clays.

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

hp 38 and all the "dot" powder are filthy, clays is good but titegroup is cleaner yet, the vihtavuory is the cleanest.
hope this helps.

VV340. Easy to load light to very fast 9s. Its a bit on the slow side so recoil seems to be more of a "push" than a hard slap. Will fill a case. I load .38/9mm/.45 and 44 mag with this powder. Very clean and versatile.

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

Viht powder is the cleanest I've found. I use it exclusively in my 40 S&W loads. Might be more expensive but it's worth it.

IMO, titegroup is not very clean and burns very hot.

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

VihtaVuori is #1 for clean. It can be hard to find in some areas and it's spendy in all.

#2 in my experience are Ramshot's powders. Try Silhouette run as close to the top of the load chart as is safe in your firearm. I bet you'll be pleased with the results. Not only is it clean, but it has a pretty subdued muzzle flash and has the added advantage of metering uniformly.

That said, I usually load Winchester 231 (identical to HP38) for economy and as long as I keep the loads towards the top of the chart and crimp well, it isn't very dirty at all. (I found that the simple addition of a Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die helped make for more consistent start pressures which helped reduce unburned powder.)

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

i will see if my local shop has VihtaVuori although i kinda doubt it has anyone used ramshot true blue they have some on the shelf but i have never used ramshot besides the tac powder for 223

Re: who makes the cleanest burning powder for 9mm

Don't forget green dot. That is what I switched to for most of my competition loads. Shoots well and the newer stuff is clean burning.
