Ran out the door , 7 eleven for Mac and energy drink . Buddy had me signed up just had to hand in cash and what started out as a less than perfect day ended with me shaving .97 off of my fastes stage time . Woooo Hooooo . Awesome day . It was even misting rain at the start . Finished off by going to Five Guys with two buddies after the Club Comp. . Livin the dream boys .

Does yesterday count? took the day off to go with a buddy to http://www.castlecountry.com/Shooting-Range . sighted in a couple rifles, function checked 2 more. ended the day by banging the steel plate at 600yds with a bunch of 77gr smk's. always cool to watch the bullet trace into the target through spotting scope. I think the truck was 200 lbs lighter coming home with all the ammo we used.

Not today, as my middle daughter had a softball tourney, but yesterday my two youngest (10 & 8) had off from school. Took them to the range with my suppressed Kidd 22. They had huge grins blasting steel at 50 and 100. That little rifle is scary accurate and makes for some good times with the kids.

Bleh, muzzle loader is minute of deer ( 2 inch groups at 100 and all over the place), 6.5CM is ready for rifle season. 300WM ready to end an ungulate as well. .270 autoloader? I hate this fucker. Guess I'm going to have to trim some spring to get it firing properly.

Shot the Texas Precision Rifle Matches Fall Classic today. Not setting the score board on fire, but meeting some personal goals, missing others. The weather was great, the wind was light. Beats sitting at the house, or shooting on a square range.

Taking my 11 year old son to the range today . I traded my .308 bolt gun for a DPMS GII Bull . When I got home with it the boy picked it up , checked the chamber flag , then said this is awesome when are we shootin it . Gotta teach him how to reload now if he's gonna be runnin thru my stock . ?

My daughter was bored and badgered me into taking her out. I was just getting over some kind if 24 hour flu, so I really wasn't feeling it but damn it was good to get out. She spent some time with her light weight build AR. We shot my mk12mod0 and my TNS rifle a little and then I finally got around to installing my zerostop turret on an old leupold 8.5-25 scope ran 20 rounds through my 700/300. 57° when we stopped and almost pitch black but if could see the non-ill reticle on a fill sized steel IPSC at 1k it was ringing loud. Never noticed sparks off the KYL rack until yesterday, shooting 230 Berger OTMs.

(Hit the lottery. Built the dream house on the edge of a section of fine farmland. Wander down the racks of AI's, custom varmint rigs in the large attached loading room. What to do, what to do? Work on the loads for the upcoming month long P. dag safari? Fine tune the 300 WM load in the 300 yard underground range? Drive the Hummer out to the 1,000 yard range to play with the fast twist 22-250 Improved? Decisions, decisions......)

Wake up to the Child Bride gently shaking my big toe, fell asleep watching the news again. Take a last glance at the 4064/4166 load test data graph, looks like 4064 is a good place to start. Will have to carve out some daylight time this week to test some more .308 rounds. 4 loads, 5 rounds each, should nail it down. Head to bed thinking about the drive to the family farm, still lots to do buttoning up for the winter.

Not a lot of shooting this year, way to many more important tasks on the list. However, what shooting was done produced lots of excellent results. Still need to get .308 load data nailed down and find a good 5.56/AR load for this winter's loading projects.

Shot yesterday, will again today, more yet this fall. I don't need no damned lottery, that would just muck up what I have.

Went out yesterday to Thunder Valley. Hitting the 1K gong with a 308 was challenging due to the switching tailwind. Much easier at 700 yards.

Highlight was consistently hitting (like better than 90% hit rate) a dull, grey, IPSC target in a treeline 315 yards away with a 16" carbine shooting 75 gr handloads, with an Aimpoint PRO for a sight. About 50% hit rate on a 18" square plate at 370 yards.

Still, got out Wednesday with the newly arrived Grandson, down at the local pit with the 9mm and a new Upper. That boy can shoot...

Next planned outing is down to Douglas Shooting Park at the Border to sight-in 4 newly mounted scopes on 4 Uppers. Patrick wants to learn how that's done, so the honors are his. Will be showing him Ryan Cleckner's Video on that first.

I didn't post up the wall drill double taps on paper at 20 yards. Crawl, walk, run drills for her. Shes still at Crawl, but shes trying. 4 full pistol bays with steel and paper.

Pics are from the short range. 25 yard-100y rimfire steel and paper. steel and paper at 200, 300, 400, 500.

Long range section (members only) has 600, 750, 1000 and 1250. Paper and steel. All rifle ranges are covered. rooftops and baracades at short snd long. tank traps, etc at long. Teo guys there when we showed up. after an hour we had the run of the place.

Oh. has 3D and KD archery too.

Tony runs a great place.

edit. Ninja stuff isn't really our bag, though we do enjoy it. This is more of our style. ( this KD range is Oak Ridge, not SE)

Took the sons 16" 223 out to 900 today. Only made 5 hits in 14 rounds on a 10" plate, the wind was being calamitous. The 75 ELD's at 2800fps actually make visible hits/misses and very audible noise even on the 1/2" steel. Very impressed with the round, my wind reading not so much...

Plate is barely visible in my crappyphone pic, about 4.5 mil right and 1.5 down.

Still took paint off.

Dug out my 7.7 twist 223 this afternoon and fiddled with 80 grain Amax loads for a bit. Not happy with the pressure I have to run to get the performance I'm after.

I'll probably order up another blank to chamber and see what kind of life it gives running a 22-250 in a low node.

Saw a video review of a new Diana pistol and decided to dust off my old Diana Model 5 and give it some backyard time again shooting empty beer cans. Didn't feel the need to record it due to there already being a vid on my channel shooting it from like 10 years ago.

Last F-class match for the year, 3X600 yards. I'm still pretty new at this gig, first year and third match with a purpose-built rifle. Still pretty Micky Mouse equipment vs many others. Conditions were pretty insane with a weather front moving through. Temps in the 40s, winds from the east at the start. Got through the first 10 shots of my first string then weather started to go to shite, dropped some points at the end for a 196-11X. Second string conditions were worse, 194-5X. Third string was insane, I'd watch 3 wind flags and they all blew different directions. Both direction and velocity changed quickly and erratically. I kind of just tried to distill the totality of the feedback into a hold and fire. The 19th shot I got caught by a switch and BARELY got an 8, throwing it all the way across the target from where I expected, so I threw the last shot in the chamber and said "F it", just aimed for center, and shot....and got an X right where I aimed.

Ended up 196-11X, 194-5X, 190-4X. Not great scores overall but in those conditions they may be good enough to win or 2nd place the match from what I observed. Most importantly I learned a ton about reading wind so it was a great day.
