I have been looking at ball heads for tripods and don't really understand why it would work better for a rifle? The whole concept is to keep the rifle level and the scope level with the rifle. This way the scope tracks correctly at extreme distances. So, what is the draw of a ball head? Doesn't this introduce cant into the equation? I suspect that a standard tripod head would give you the same amount of swing and tilt as a ball head ..... while keeping your rifle more level.
I can understand the need of being able to adjust to a non level surface. But, the adjustable legs allow for that. And, the tripod has a bubble level to ensure it's level before even mounting the rifle.
I guess I just don't understand the reasoning. Can someone explain??
