You have to struggle so that you have something left after taxes. You have to pay taxes so that guys like the ones in the article can steal more than they could ever be reasonably paid. This is a microcosm of the macro that is the government "Ponzi scheme". If you wonder why none of the agents involved was were prosecuted, keep in mind that they now the names of all the upstream personnel were making the referrals or had their own hand in the cookie jar.

In essence, how is this any different than Iran Contra / Fast N Furious / the US Gov Heroin trade / a host of other things?

Where the hell was this shit when I was assigned to ATF? About this time every year they'd completely spent the office funds. At the same time the US Attorney's office was begging for as many cases as possible before the end of the FY. We literally had to work a deal with them that they'd give us printer paper and ink cartridges so we could print out case reports because we didn't have the money to buy a case of copy paper.

Lol. I was just referring to THIS chapter of F-Troops illustrious history.

Thinking Klinton/Reno era is where the ball really started rolling. Rabid anti-gun Executive branch and DOJ+tax collectors looking for relevance and their own militarized SWAT teams= Klinton eta harassment of gun dealers and owners, Branch Davidian massacre and extortion of Randy Weaver leading to Ruby Ridge and on to OK City. Fast forward a little to Eric Holder, F&F, Operation Chokepoint, and the death of Brian Terry to name a few.

However the money they paid themselves came from tobacco related sales, and not from the US Treasury. So it was not that much of a drain on gov. resources.

While not legal, the flip side of this is also that they were not constrained by higher ups and politico's...as well as bought off politico's, to investigate whatever they wanted. Therefore making them very effective in their jobs. Providing of course they had ethics. Which leads us back to the original subject.
