I bought my first Glock today, a Glock 19, after hearing so much about how great they are. It shoots fine, accurate enough, simple to use, nice size for CCW... but where's the golden turd these things are supposed to lay? Nothing strikes me as bad at all, but nothing really stands out either.

So what is it you like most about your glock?

The only thing I find really annoying is having to rack the slide every time I want to dry fire it (which is pretty much constantly).

You already answered your own question.

Inexpensive, reliable, boring, functions as you need it.

Re: Why do you like glock?

It just keeps shooting. What more can you ask for?

Got my first Glock in 1988 and still have it.

You only need to move the slide about 1/4" to reset the striker.

Re: Why do you like glock?

They just work. Plain and simple. I was not a Glock person either. I preferred 1911s and some Sigs. I still prefer a 1911 for target use, range work, and good ol looks. Then I had to start training with a glock for work. Initially the trigger bothered me a little, and the difference in grip angle compared to the 1911 took some getting used to. However, that was all trained out and soon I was quite comfortable with the plastic gun. Since then I have fired so many 10s of thousands of rounds through each of 2 duty guns that I cant keep track. There has never been a single malfunction in either gun. Not one. That is something none of my other guns can say in over a decade of handgun training. They have been shot for thousands of rounds without cleaning......they have had a good solid tablespoon of fine silt and sand dumped out of their magazines and still were functioning......they have been beaten and abused and held up to everything I have thrown at them.

They are still not my favorite handgun, but they are one I would grab on a trip through hell because I know they will keep firing round after round after round. The only bad thing about them is the resale value if you decide you want to sell/trade one. They start off so cheap, you dont get much for them.

Re: Why do you like glock?

Cheap compared to my h/k elite, accurate as hell and reliable. It's the workhorse that has a pic rail, can get a new barrel for 150 or so, and doesn't care how you talk to it.

If you touch that HiPower you will catch the Gay !!! For the Love of God and JMB who in their right mind would do that to such a fine side arm ??

Now, as for the Glock thing , they make a gun that runs right outs the box and chamber it in 10MM .

Probably a little outfit called Ceska zbrojovka, otherwise known as CZ....since that's a CZ75 not a HiPower.

That's what I love. I have to admit, I actually don't like the way Glocks feel in my hand(regardless of model). Ergonomically, my Sig, 1911's and even HK USPc is infinitely better suited to my hand...but the Glock is just a workhorse that takes whatever you throw at it. Like said above, it goes bang every time - I love that!

Re: Why do you like glock?

For me the 19/23/32 points more accuratly for me than my index finger, and the Glock just wont give up. Its very simple and only has the featurs it needs to get the job done (except the original sights.)

Re: Why do you like glock?

My Glock fit me like a glove. I was trying the XD and then picked up the Glock and never put it down. It pointed where I wanted every time. My 1911 wouldn't do that and it jammed quite often. It has 6-7 hundred rounds down the tube and no problems at all. It's not a show gun, it's a working gun. Thats all I wanted.

Re: Why do you like glock?

my honest opinion...

glocks were ahead of there time when they were made, now with the market and other polymer options i would have a hard time picking one up IMHO over m&p and xd. I really believe that they are just a great of a firearm. glocks are nice but the others with the grip angle and same price point work better for me

glocks have the same following as 1911, people just sware by them.

nothing wrong with a working pistol, i just have better luck with HK and M&P

Re: Why do you like glock?

I like my Glock because it fits me the ergonomics are great and its like the AK of the pistol world as others have said it goes bang every time. Lots of available cheap parts, every gunsmith I know has no problem working on them and have the tools for them.

Re: Why do you like glock?

I have owned and carried the Glocks on and off duty for many years. I have shot them in competitions and I have never had a jam or failure of any kind. Accurate, reliable and easy to shoot. That is why I like Glock.

However, I recently fired a XDM and I was soo impressed I bought a XDM .45 last week. Initially, I was very skeptical of the XD but I am starting to think it may be the better plastic pistol.

Re: Why do you like glock?

I've carried a G22 on duty for about 10yrs. I qualify expert with it every time but I HATE the damn thing. The grip shape and angle suck, the trigger sucks. The grip feels like a fingergrooved 2x4 & the trigger feels like the trigger on a cheap BB gun. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's pretty accurate and it is reliable. Thank God I can qualify with something else for off duty carry.

Re: Why do you like glock?

You ask WHY we/I like them....

Simple... Its my issued weapon for the past 10 years... has NEVER failed... and my life is entrusted to its simplicity...

Of course. Redundancy. I do carry a G19 at times. I like having TWO mostly identical pistols if I carry that model. I am weird like that. The only difference between my two 19s is that one has a threaded barrel for a suppressor.

Re: Why do you like glock?

I have two glocks, a G-23 for a carry gun and a G-20 that I hunt with. Love them both for all the reasons everyone else mentioned except one........Its the only gun I know of that has a finish hard enough to sharpen your knife on without scratching it. I have done it several times showing skeptics.

Re: Why do you like glock?

I started shooting Glocks in 1990. G 17 , G 21 (What a brick, I still have it) I now carry a G 36 and am thinking about switching to a G 38 or G 39.

Reliable without the drama, just like every woman should be.

I had a 17 way, way back in the day, like the mid-80s. It stovepiped no matter what I did, and I still can't get my head around the idea of a pistol that requires that you pull the trigger to disassemble. I don't shoot them, or recommend them, but I'm diplomatic enough not to run at the mouth about my feelings. If only Glock fanboys were so considerate ...

Re: Why do you like glock?

Ahead of their time, reliable enough to trust with your life, torture tested out the wazoo...

I sold all my other pistols but a couple of other 1911's (only reason I still have the 1911's is I can't sell them for what I have into them).

Glock-head until I'm dead.

Re: Why do you like glock?

The G19 fit my hand "perfectly", it is very natural feeling. Also, for a stock gun, it has a very consistant trigger in pull and break.
After owning it for a year now, it has never had a malfunction. It has shot every cheapass round from Walmart (or where ever) that I have put into it.

Re: Why do you like glock?

Because it works....

A good middle of the road (not double or single) trigger system, low center line,no stupid external safeties / mag safety and very snag free and durable.

Re: Why do you like glock?

Thanks for ALL the comments.. I think they mostly all point to the same two main themes... reliability and simplicity. I can dig that, and appreciate the 19 I bought a little more now.

I suspect one poster might have hit the nail on the head, Glock was ahead of their time when they came out in the 90's and earned a lot of respect as a duty pistol and reliable performer. Since then the market's caught up but Glock hasn't done anything to lose the respect they gained and all the people who have trained on and carried them still swear by them as a known good gun.

Re: Why do you like glock?

They eat everything except cast bullets. I've seen several bulged or split factory G22 barrels from shooting cast bullets. The unsupported chamber doesn't thrill me either. I've seen more than one ruptured case with factory ammo. There are several other pistols I would rather carry on duty, but it's issued and I don't have a choice.

Re: Why do you like glock?

I prefer 1911s, but I have to say that, in my experience Glocks seem more reliable, and will shrug off treatment that would stop a 1911. The downside of Glocks for me is that I can repair a 1911 with simple tools and easily obtainable parts, while repairing a Glock usually means a trip to see someone who has the necessary parts. I have tried for some time to build up a Glock parts kit, but nobody seems to be able to get me a good assortment of replacement parts. Still, even if going into an area where there is not likely to be resupply for some time, I would say that the Glock is a better bet for reliability.

Re: Why do you like glock?

My agency just switched back to Glock. For me its not about what looks pretty or is tacticool it is about what is going to save my life when I have to use it.

I work in a harsh saltwater environment. It is extremely hard on are weapons. So much to the point that we have had guns fail to fire at the range. That my friend is an ugly feeling. And these are pistols that were properly maintained.

I carried a Glock prior to the pistol that is being replaced now. I have to admit, as much as I depended on that weapon, I didn't always clean it. But not once in two years did I ever have a failure to fire.

So back to your original question "Why do I like Glock?". It works.

While this one is a CZ, My brother found a gold plated Hi-power in Iraq one of the hi-er ups took it to make sure it was "properly disposed of". He said he was looking forward to putting it under a pile of C4, those EOD guys will blow anything up.

I really started looking at the glock after going to the armorer course for work. I think it really is a well built and designed pistola. I have had an XD for 10 or so just after Springfield started importing them and two weeks ago I switched over to a G22 as my carry gun. It really pissed me off I liked my XD's but I shot the glock so much better I had to do it and now I think its here to stay.
