Rifle Scopes WHY does m new NF NXS 3.3-15x50 say "made in japan

Someone please help me here!!....Are all Nightforce scopes made in Japan? If they are have they always been made there? I thought these were made here in the USA. Any info on this situation will help me sleep at night. I just purchased a new 3.5-15x50 (as in received it tuesday). I'm waiting on rings and mounts. Everytime I get it out to look thru it and see where all my money went, i see "made in Japan" which sorta ruins the experience. Clifford44

Yes, NF is made in Japan; as is Sightron, and Bushnell Elites, some Burris, et al. Leupold has also long used glass sourced from Japan, and "other" locations.

IOR's glass is German, ditto Ziess, Swarowski and S&B; no suprises there.

the only two scopes that are US made that I know of are, ....
leupold, but made w/ chink parts..reviews of late are not so stellar
and USO...great scopes, bring your checkbook and a snickers

Yep, made in Japan. Just like BobinNC's list, like quite a few others (which should also include Horus). Ewoaf's offer was nice for the $300, but since I also heard that every time you look through a scope made in Japan...God kills a kitten and increases the rate of both global warming and the expansion of Al Gore's ego...I will do the honorable thing and offer $400 cash to you for your Japanese-made, evil Nightforce NXS scope!

ewoaf, i'm ordering bases and rings today or tomorrow. as soon as i get it put together i'll report how the "fake NXS" performs. It's going on a Rem. LTR .308 with a SWEET trigger job. I can't wait to try it out. Now if I could only afford to buy some ammo. hmmmm do the japanese make ammo too?

Cliff,

Good luck with your NF & Remi combo...should be absolutely great. I applaud your desire to support a made in the USA product, but I'd be dumbstruck if you didn't end up ecstatic over your NF. For the little it's worth, I've garnered some comfort from looking up the amount of USA products that are imported INTO Japan, which although the balance is far from even, it is a country that actually trades (as in both ways...the last 3 years have had a slow, but progressive increase in total yen of US imports) with the USA. Good shooting!

ok guys, here's a curve ball for all the experts. If the NF is even close to what I've heard it is and it's made in japan.....
where does this put my springfield armory 4-14x56 that is..you guessed it MADE IN JAPAN! it is factory compensated for a 168 gr. .308, has range marked out to 1000 yards (based on 168 gr bullet drop), has an internal level bubble...yada yada yada and I took it OFF the LTR for a Jap NF 3.5-15x50. Does anyone have a psychology degree that can help me explain this to myself???

We went over this at AR15.com recently and Bill sent me this to post as he was busy so it might help here also:

"It's no secret that the original lineup of NF scopes are marked "Made in Japan". While there are subcomponents in these scopes made in Japan, all assembly, quality control, reticle installation, servicing and warranty take place in Idaho. Japan isn't in the equation in the unlikely event you have an issue. The F1 and Compact scopes are made in the US. Nightforce is up front and doesn't try to hide this. There are other scope manufacturers who like their customers to think they are made in the USA by placing their name and address on the scope-this does not mean it's "Made in the USA".

Japan is considered the #2 glass manufacturer in the world and it isn't to be ashamed of. Everybody likes to refer to Schott glass as #1 but they make different grades of glass too. Something most people don't pay any mind to is that a lot of European scope manufacturers are now outsourcing their glass to Japan.

I find it funny (not directed at anybody in particular) that you have customers who have no problems buying something out of Europe-but if anything is made in Japan it's automatically suspect even with a well proven track record for some companies such as NF."

Ok, i can buy into most of the japanese part. where does the springfield armory scope fall into all this? i've always heard complaints that the glass wasn't on par with the euro scopes, leupolds, etc. i haven't heard much at all as far as the quality of this scope being suspect. i know the NF is going on my 308 LTR, should the springfield scope go ebay??

People get way too hung up on where the product was made. As long as it's a quality product, like Nightforce, it shouldn't matter. Also different levels of production go on in all countries. Not one country puts out only top of the line products of any type. They all have different levels so worry less about where it or it's components were made and more about how it performs.

Bottom line is Nightforce makes one hell of a scope whether it was made here, Japan or the surface of the moon.

Chopperguy, tell me about the Super Sniper and if you are serious. Also are we talking about $300 American (not rubles, etc.)I do have a set of Leupold rings and bases that will go with it, but I might need a tad bit (not much) over $300. The main question and what could be a deal killer......what flavor is the Doublemint and how much of it are you willing to come off of?
Let me know if you are at all serious about your offer or if it was just a jab at me....I'm always interesting in trading, plus I do need to sell the scope. Obviously it isn't up to par with NF, S&B, etc. but I have never had a single issue with the scope. Once sighted in, it stays sighted, has a great, clear reticle, and it's really cool how they set it up for the 168 gr as well as these hash marks and many others that can actually be used to measure (or give reference) at all distances up to 100 yds! The nightforce NXS series has proven to be one of the best.
Regardless of its birth place it has a proven track record of quailty and the glass is supurb. I rather not look at where the scope is made but rather how the scope performes. If Japan is where its made then to bad someone here wasn't able to build the same quality at there price. Truth is I don't care where it is made as long as its not China, Iran, North Korea, Egypt, Africa.

I think there is a misunderstanding,
I was responding to Bgold......
I don't have a Super Sniper, nor do I need one....
My original response was about the Springfield scope...
I got one that would not come into focus beyond 200 yards...
I sent it back and the customer service was good, they sent it back "fixed" within 10 days, but I couldn't tell a difference...
So I sold it locally... (so they knew what they were getting)
I live at around 7000 ft elevation, I have wondered if that had any effect on the scope....
I do have a Falcon Menace and must say I am impressed with it, especially for $390 shipped....
I would offer to trade you this one, but I promised it to an old Navy buddy of mine...

To the OP, why is this a problem? NFs parent company isn't even American. They don't go and hide this fact, compared to other US based companies that buy from other countries that are known to make crap and pass it off to the American consumer as "All American"

Most(all?) top glass comes from Germany or Japan. The fact that a top scope is assembled in the US but the important components are sourced outside the US is what should concern Americans. Other countries now have the best, most advanced optics and we just do the assembly? Where are our top optical factories producing the world's best glass? This is what should concern people. Who cares whether the lower skill job of assembly is done in the US?
