You know...I was just sitting here thinking about why I enjoy shooting. Is it the smell of burned gunpowder? Gun oil? The satisfaction of owning that 1 inch dot 100 yards away? I think it is all of these reasons for Me & many others.

I love machinery. Cars, guns, motorcycles, airplanes. Doesn't matter...I just love it. Someone's hard work contributed to the making of the various pieces of machinery that we use in our day to day lives.

I think though, that I love guns & shooting most of all. My health isn't so good any more, but I can still sit a a bench & shoot all day long, & escape the problems & issues of the day for a while. You see...it takes a serious amount of concentration to shoot well. During that time, there is nothing but You & that rifle. All other issues cease for that little while.

Yeah...I love shooting. The smell, the peace, the concentration....I think it's time for Me to build a new rifle.

I'm with ya brother! Most of the time I'm in my wheelchair I feel lesser than other folks that can just go and do. When I get behind my rifle I can do things that most folks can't, legs or not. It helps me to relax and forget about everything but that target, I love it!

Well put. Just being outside able to squeeze some rounds off is nice. Kind of like fishing, even when you're not catching anything.

I can relate! Being an old mechanical engineer, I just find guns fascinating. Plus it's a lot cheaper than golf (which I hate anyhow) and there is just comething satisfying about putting rounds downrange whether it's an old military relic or a new space age shooter.

Re: Why I like shooting.

I have no mechanical skills whatsoever where automobiles, motorcycles, etc., are involved. But for some reason I am fascinated by guns and shooting. I have over the years gained some rudimentary skills in rifle bedding, revolver action work, 1911 massaging(nothing heavy, just adding/fitting beavertails and the like) and trigger work. I get some great satisfaction from this.

I have spent many enjoyable days with good friend Banshee and brother Slickrick at various ranges. It seems to build fellowship and creates a bond. In the last few weeks, I have shot mostly by myself. The last day I shot, I had the range all to myself. That was a good day, too. I got to play with a new .308 that shoots under .50" at 100yds. Only problem is that it fouls. I even enjoyed breaking in the barrel- shoot; clean; shoot; clean.

A couple of weeks ago, I took a former Marine shooting. Super good family man and hard worker. He had not shot in years. As per usual for Marines, he made bitty groups and seemed to be right at home behind a rifle. I don't think he had shot a heavy bolt gun before so it was a real treat for him. We both had a wonderful day.

At 50 years old, I enjoy shooting more now than I ever have.

Re: Why I like shooting.

I do the work thing 24/7 ,on call day or night.
The ONLY time my phone is off is when I'am on the scope.
I will turn it off till my barrel gets hot. You have to let the world go some times and do what makes you grin like a kid.
I really like to hear about older shooters or those who have physical issues that get it done down range.
Never to old and there is ALLWAYS a way to do what you want to do Sir.
