I was just wondering why there isn't more information on the .223 wylde chamber? I know some of the big dog AR sellers out there are building their barrels with it so why is there so little information on it? I have the .223 wylde on my AR which I built myself with a WOA barrel and it shoots everything and anything without any hickups so some friends of mine were going to get the same barrel until they read the .223 wylde part and think you have to reload some special round. They won't take my word for it so anyone know a web site to send them to? Thanks ahead of time.

Not trying to be a dick here. If you google 223 wylde it will come up with a ton of results stating what it is and they can read for themselves. Basically, a chamber that allows for the safe use of SAAMI and MIL surplus ammo. Maybe you should just get new friends instead...

I think I need to use a better search aid. Google worked, thanks. And they are more just some people I shoot with every now and then at matches not so much "Friends" You know older guys who don't like any type of change.

This "older guy" has had a wylde chamber on a RRA Varminter for eight years and it is capable of 3/4 moa and has killed hundreds of varmints. Now some "older guys" don't like change because of adult depends and its understandable. You young whipper snapper.

interesting thing I learned about the Wylde is that when checking headspace you need a specific Wylde guage....if you use a standard headspace guage to check a Wylde chamber, it can read over headspace....I bought a Wylde chamber guage from Pacific Tool

So let me get this strait. You show them your gun witch shoots anything you stick in the chamber. Then they decide they want the same barrel after seeing yours. Then you tell them its a multi use chamber that's designed to shoot whatever you want and they call bullshit? They saw it with there own eyes didn't they? They sound like the old timers at the range who think anything other than a .45, .357 mag or .30-30 are stupid.

Re: Why so little information on .223 wylde?

Only major difference between the 5.56 NATO and .223 Wylde chambers is the amount of leade in the throat before the rifling starts...its a compromise between a .223 Rem chamber and a 5.56 NATO chamber.

    From wiki:

The 5.56mm NATO chambering, known as a NATO or mil-spec chamber, has a longer leade, which is the distance between the mouth of the cartridge and the point at which the rifling engages the bullet. The .223 Remington chambering, known as SAAMI chamber, is allowed to have a shorter leade, and is only required to be proof tested to the lower SAAMI chamber pressure. To address these issues, various proprietary chambers exist, such as the Wylde chamber (Rock River Arms)[11] or the ArmaLite chamber, which are designed to handle both 5.56mm NATO and .223 Remington equally well. The dimensions and leade of the .223 Remington minimum C.I.P. chamber also differ from the 5.56mm NATO chamber specification.

I think you summed it up. They don;t see how it can't have any "Long term Damage" even if it shoots it now. I am the young stupid guy who just has it wrong.
