Ok guys have a few questions. I live in new york, but have a house now in florida too. House is located in inverness (1.5hrs south of gainsville 1.5hrs north of orlando).

Is there any hog hunting in this area?
I have ny licenses to hunt, would I have to do anything other than buy a florida license?
Any other info on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Wild pig/hog hunting question

Don't know about the regulations there but if you call your DNR office in your area they will be able to let you know what you will need to do to hunt legally. This way you want end up with some bad second hand info and end up in trouble. Also if you talk with a local warden he should be able to tell you where you might have some luck, especially with hogs. They usually like to get rid of as many as possible.

Check this out:
Florida North Central WMAs

If you have pigs on private property, they're pests and can be taken year round without a license. Not sure if you can get a resident license or not. You would need a management stamp in addition to license to hunt WMAs in the link. Find a swampy area and you will usually find piggies. Or if you see deer, there are no pigs.

They're pretty much everywhere down here. You can shoot pigs year round on private property with no license. They are viewed as a nuisance animal. If you hunt public land, look at the link that fngmike posted, it'll tell you everything. The thing that sux hunting public land is the shear # of idiots you'll have to deal with.

Re: Wild pig/hog hunting question

Thanks guys, the house down there is being left to my fiancee and I, and I would love to be able to go down there with her and the kids, and then sneak away for a day or 2 to get some pigs haha. I'll make some calls after checking out that website.

Re: Wild pig/hog hunting question

there are also a bunch of fee hunting for hogs type places. don't know about any of them re fair chase, fees etc but there's a bunch. when you are in FL there are usually fish and game mags in the convenience stores with,i think, plenty of ads for same.
