Will a 3x9 42mm Redfield scope be enough for 600yrds on a 20" Ruger SFAR .308?

Hey all,

I have a Redfield Revenge 3x9 42mm scope that I'd like to use on a Ruger SFAR 20" 308. But a quick search online Im reading that a x12 for 600 yards and a lot more x22 for 800 yards. I doubt I'll ever shoot beyond 600yrds, where I live its all pine trees and hills. What scope would you put on a 20" 308 with a $800 budget?

Thanks

You will be fine.

I have a Redfield 3x9 on an M40 clone.

I have it zeroed at a 2 mil hold under.

I shoot to 700 or so at 9X. Drop mag to 4.5 and use the reticle to get 1000.

Your issue won’t be magnification.

Your issue will be the likelihood your adjustments are not repeatable.

Use your reticle. At 600 yards you will be able to maintain full magnification.

That’s going to vary from person to person. If you have 20/20 (corrected or natural) and that scope’s glass isnt absymal and the target is a 1/2 ipsc or bigger than it should be enough but for most 12-18x is ideal for 500-800m.

22x is good for PID, reading mirage etc but usually a bit much unless you hBe perfect atmospheric conditions and tier 1 glass…

ETA: I can hit 2/3 ipsc out to 1000m with no issue at 10-12x in reasonable conditions so 9x at 600 is fine

Scrape just a bit more together by selling off your current scope then call Scott at Liberty Optics & see what kind of deal he can make you on the 4.5-22x50 HD LHT FFP

There’s something wrong with your scope friend. It looks sick.

It’s all green…

I opted for a Razor LHT 4.5-22 and so far it has been great for my 20” SFAR. Got this to be a lightweight semi-auto long range hunting rig and so far its proving to be just what the doctor ordered.

I’m hitting a 16x16 target at 700 yards with a Razor 1x6.

Clear and sharp. Easy.

Can see further, but 700 is max target distance at my range.
