the wife and myself wanted some opinions to see if we were on the right track.we have a win coyote 300 wsm.we were thinking about rebarreling it and were wondering if we could go with .308 win.or would it be better to just get another rifle or start from another action.the reason we were thinking about the coyote is that it is really a great rifle but the wrong caliber for us.thanks.

Re: winchester 300 wsm

Would be better to start with a rifle with the correct bolt face for building a 308. Bolt face for a 300 WSM is 0.532" vs. 0.473" for a 308.

Probably could do a 6.5mm or 30 cal WSSM wildcat to stick with your current reciever but then into special dies, reamer, etc.

yeah thats why we were wanting it to be a .308,we currently have a model 10 fcp in 308,so we are set up in the reloading department.we thought about selling it to fund another rifle.wonder what the coyote would go for if we decide to sell it .truth is the wife has fallen in love with the fcp so i got to do somthin quick.she is starting to call it hers.

Re: winchester 300 wsm

well that dont sound too bad there, would there be any fitting required to swap the bolt bodies.or probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have it trued and fitted by the smith that rebarreled it though i guess.so 140 plus another 500 bucks should get it to shooting .i will post up the project if we take this route, wich is starting to look more appealing.i just went to the dealer and a new fcp 1079.00.
