I just purchased a very nice model 75 and I was looking up the serial number which is in part 890XX . the only information have been able to find stops at 88XXX with is 1958. this is the target model with redfield front and rear sight. Heavy barrel, I believe is standard for the target model. I have heard it called the poor mans model 52, but it is a nice weapon. any help on the serial number would be greatly appreciated

Looks like production ended in 1958 so I would say that is where the trail ends. 75's are really good shooting guns but I would put them in the same league as the Remington 513T.
Having shot 75's and 52's side by side, there is no comparison.

If it is a very late production model the receiver will have a dovetail groove on it for 3/8" rimfire rings. I can't recall the serial # of mine but it has the groove. They are a nice budget target rifle, but in no way can they hold a candle to a 52B, C, or D. They do use the same magazine as a 52 though.

Workmanship on the rifle would be unapproachable today in any factory rifle. My experience is that some of them shoot right along with the 52's and 40x's and some fall a bit short. All are quite accurate for anything except possibly competitive BR shooting. Enjoy it.

thank you for the comments. Bunsen27 gave me the key.. mine has the rimfire scope grooves on the back of the receiver. the serial numbers at the start of 1958 were 88715 and the Winchester site indicates that only a small amount of rifles were made that year, using the remaining parts. my rifle serial number is within a few hundred of the starting number. So the rifle is a 1958 model, probably one of the last one's off the line. That is cool in itself!!

thanks to all
