Hello Everyone,
I am currently trying to read as much material as possible on this subject. Do any of you have any suggestions and/or thoughts? I was suggested "The Wind Book for Rifle Shooters" by Linda K. Miller & Keith Cunningham(thoughts?). I have a basic knowledge of wind and Mirage but I'm really after a more thorough knowledge of it. I've been practicing with my kestrel and have been getting pretty good at making rough wind calls at my position but I know that's only half the battle. Thank you for all your insight.

In case you haven't seen it already:

There a few more reading recommendations listed in that thread. If you Google something like "wind reading precision rifle shooting" (or similar), you can also find links to several web-based articles and books that may be similar to what you're looking for. There are good tips for wind reading that you can pick up in this way, but your best bet is to come away from your reading with a detailed plan you can implement that will allow you to put the information from the book(s) to use actually making wind calls while shooting. Reading can be a great way to start developing a basic understanding of how wind reading works, but the "doing" will be when you really start to figure it out. You might also consider taking in a wind reading clinic in your area, if you can find one. Good luck.

Tony Boyer's book isn't a bad place to start. It covers a lot of topics but there is a section on reading conditions.

Re: Wind/Mirage Reading Books

Better idea:

Buy a good wind meter (I like the Kestrel) and take it and your spotting scope to the field (leave the rifle home).

Get a wind speed reading then look in your scope and see what the mirage is doing. Do this at different ranges and angle. (Take notes).

Keep it up, the more practice, the better you'll do.

The problem with books, DVDs, n'such, is not two people's eyes are the same. They don't see the same way.

The windmeter/spotting scope practice works for your eyes.
