Hello fellow Hiders,

I spoke with my local store yesterday and asked how much it would be to order some Wolf Match Target. I know I could buy it online but I like to help out local businesses and their prices aren't ridiculous.

Anyway, he said he couldn't order it anymore. I told him I could still find it online and he said to buy it up as Wolf ammunition has pretty much stopped since Tul-Ammo showed up (in the 7.62x39 and 5.56 world). He said Eley bought Wolf and the Wolf stuff would be drying up soon and to buy as much of it as I can.

<span style="color: #FF0000">11/12/11:
Upon further Google-Fu, I believe Wolf 22LR ammo is no longer being produced. It was manufactured in the SK-Jagd factory across the pond and it appears SK will now be making it under their name. I'm not sure on Wolf Match Extra but it seems Wolf Match Target has been replaced with "SK Standard Plus". I have ordered 2 bricks of this for testing and will update this thread once I get the opportunity. It will probably be after Thanksgiving.</span>

Re: Wolf Ammo?

just ordered a brick from sportsman's guide to try it out, just started shooting small bore silhouette. If I like it, I stock up. Cheaper than eley, and the new eley is $18 a box at the store.

Re: Wolf Ammo?

If you have a cabelas around buy a small box of everything and see what your rifle/pistol likes. For me I found the Lapua and gold medal match 40grn where the best but only slightly better than american eagle 40grn. The wolf and eley did not shoot well neither did a dozen or so others manufactures and types. My friend had good results with the Wolf but found the Aguila SSS 60 grn shot the best.

Re: Wolf Ammo?

Neither of my 22s (a 10/22 build that I've sold and my Savage BTV) liked wolf with enough of a difference to buying other cheaper ammo that shot just as well in them (CCI Blazer in the 10/22, Rem sub sonic hps in the Mk II).

Re: Wolf Ammo?

I've not heard about wolf MT being droped from the line.

Wolf MT and SK standard plus have always been made by Lapua. I'm not sure which of the Lapua's they compare to.

I've been buying cases of the Wolf and SK for several years and have one of each on the shelves now. Both are Printed Lapua on all 4 sides.
Wolf and SK, whichever is inside, is inkjet printed on the side of the box.

I read somewhere years ago that when Lapua does there test on whichever Lapua match it is, if it does not meet there specs for that ammo, it is boxed up for Wolf or SK.

I shoot over a case a year and have never found either to be subpar. Some of my guns will shoot either into tiny little bug holesat 100 all day long.
For Silhouette it really can't be beat IF your gun likes it.

Re: Wolf Ammo?

Yeah, CSS my 10/22 loves Wolf MT so hopefully there won't be any drop in performance when I go to SK. I was unaware they were both made by Lapua (upon reading your post I checked my Wolf MT box but theres no Lapua stamp/name on it). I do hope you're right though. I've got 1k rds of SK on the way....

Re: Wolf Ammo?

SK standard plus shot like garbage with everything i have. I tried 2 different bricks of it, and I hated it. Now Aguila Gold Eagle Target, that is some fine ammo at cheap prices.

My bricks of SK standard plus became plinking food for my 15-22

CCI SV seems to work well in a lot of my 22s. So at only $24.99 I buy every brick that I can find.

Re: Wolf Ammo is Changing

article on Tula (references wolf ammo):
http://www.luckygunner.com/ammo-manufacturer/tula-ammo-review

but on tula website: http://tulammousa.com/media/ says it's not wolf ammo.

wolf ammo site says its not tula: http://www.wolfammo.com/ (also has a good list of SK ammo in the rimfire section)

go figure.

http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=268 some other info, still, its ar15.com so take it with a grain of salt.

so it has been around forever that sk and wolf are one and the same, and here is further proof that BOTH are lapua (note the name in the website) http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html

finally found out that SK stands for schonebeck: http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html

and according to the sk / lapua site, a history of sk: http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html looks as though it was SK first, then renamed lapua, this article points out that it was SK first, then renamed lapua: http://www.chuckhawks.com/lapua_22_ammo.htm

then the lapua site has that it was lapua first, then aquired SK: http://www.lapua.com/en/lapua/history-of-lapua.html

suffice it to say, who owns who? since 2005 Nammo AS ownership changed: 50% owned by Patria Oyj and 50% by the Norwegian government.

so in the end wolf, sk, lapua is owned by the Patria Oyj and the Norwegian government.

looks like patria makes / owns more than just .22 ammo: http://www.patria.fi/Patria_WWW_EN_Sisalto/Patria_WWW_EN/Products+and+services/index.html
http://www.patria.fi/patria_www_en_sisal...re-aligned.html

perhaps they should rename it "onion ammo" ....the more layers you peel, the more layers you get!

so much like our own "freedom group" that owns remington, marlin, bushmaster, and a host of companies that you would not believe, the only thing i can get out of the clear as mud chain of events:

1. Wolf is not a manufacturer
2. Wolf is an importer
3. Wolf contracts out various manufacturers to produce ammos for them (for example SK/lapua, Tula-maybe, who knows whomelse) then prints Wolf on the box and markets it as their own.

so is wolf ammo itself changing? nah. there really wasn't wolf ammo ever, just a name. like santa clause.

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">CCI is Speer</span></span>, http://www.cci-ammunition.com/general/history.aspx which is owned by ATK http://www.atk.com/corporateoverview/bl_securitycommercial.asp and a few of their companies http://outdoorwriters.atk.com/

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Centurion Ordnance imports Aguila</span></span>, which is a really good shooting ammo for the price and very comparable to wolf / sk. however personal experience....was my go to ammo until i had a couple bricks of bad ammo. Centurion / aguila customer service sucks eggs, no response at all after contacting them. not even a "too bad" form letter / email. i would not buy it in bulk, for if their is a problem, it appears you are stuck.

all i could find on aguila, http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes.htm click on "A" you get aguila, which leads to the name Industrias Tecnos S.A. de C.V., which leads to here: http://www.itecnos.com.mx/cgi-bin/distribuidores.cgi?Pais=U.S.&Edo=,

Re: Wolf Ammo is Changing

The CCI SV is decent ammo and that price is apealing.

As far as the Aguila Gold Eagle Target, I've tried it in a lot of rifles and pistols and have never found anything that likes it.
Maybe I got 2 bad bricks.

Re: Wolf Ammo is Changing

Wolf Match Extra shoots bugholes in my Win52.....except for the low fliers every 15 or so rounds. Had to go to Eley black box for 50 yd BR matches. Playing with the barrel tuner every time I bought new ammo drove me nutz...even different lots of the Eley.

-that price, coupled with free shipping is pretty impressive.

Re: Wolf Ammo is Changing

the esiest way to tell if it is in any way lapua is to check the base of the shell casing it has crosshairs stamped onto em

i noticed that as soon as i saw a picture of the rear of the cases in a box

same with sk standard plus and a whole host of others.

it certainly is a very interesting thing to see though

i guess its like TV's all they do is re badge them and ship em in a different labelled box.

Re: Wolf Ammo is Changing

My link was intended simply to identify the particular brand/model.

I buy pretty much all of my factory guns and ammo, and reloading components from my local dealer. His prices are good, and I'd rather send the business his way and keep him in business so he's always there when I need him.

There's just something about doing business at eyeball/handshake distance that you can't get any other way.
